Boise State to Host Barb Chandler Classic

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State women's tennis will host the seventh annual Barb Chandler Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center and Julia Davis Park, Sept. 27-29. Matches will begin each day at 9 a.m. MT.
WHO'S IN: Ariadna Briones Ginesta, Ryan Kershner, Lorelyz Marruffo, Skylar Moody, Ella Piron, Paula Schaefer, Bhakti Shah and Masa Viriant will all compete in the three-day event.
THE FIELD AND FORMAT: Idaho State and Montana State will make the trip to battle with the Broncos in a mini-dual competition. Each school will divide its team into pairs, with each duo competing against pairs from other schools. The teams will first play a doubles match, and then split to compete in singles. The duo that wins two out of the three matches (one doubles and two singles) will advance to the next round.
PREVIOUS BARB CHANDLER RESULTS: The team has won the top flight the past two years, and posted a 16-7 singles record and 7-5 doubles record at the tournament in 2023.
NEW LOOK BRONCOS: The team welcomes four newcomers, including three freshmen and one sophomore transfer.
OPENING WEEKEND PERFORMANCES: Four Broncos finished the opening tournament of the season with a winning record in singles. Freshman Maya Dutta claimed the top spot in the blue draw and senior Bhakti Shah took runner-up in the orange draw.
FAN INFORMATION: Admission to all three days of the tournament is free of charge, and complimentary parking is also available all weekend. On Friday and Sunday, fans can park in the west side stadium lot between Albertsons Stadium and ExtraMile Arena, and on Saturday, in the Brady Street Garage. ABOUT BARB: Barb Chandler, a three-time U.S. Open quarterfinalist and one of the top-ranked female tennis players in the U.S. during the 1940s and 50s, is known as 'Idaho's First Lady of Tennis.' After her professional career, she devoted herself to fostering a tennis community in Boise. In 2013, Chandler was inducted into the United States Tennis Association's Intermountain Regional Hall of Fame, honoring her impact on the sport.
