CARY, N.C. – Boise State's Maya Dutta and Zdena Safarova wrapped up play in the main draw at the ITA All-American Championships, Thursday.

Dutta and Safarova matched up with Duke's Elizabeth Coleman and Shavit Kimchi in the round of 32 and fell in a thrilling three-set match.

The Bronco duo started strong, winning 20-of-29 serve points and 10-of-25 return points to take the first set 6-3. Duke's pair bounced back in the second, winning the set 6-3. In the third set tiebreak, Boise State's pair fell behind 6-0 early. Dutta and Safarova battled their way back into the set, but were ultimately bested 10-8.

Dutta and Safarova then squared off against No. 28 Ahmani Guichard  and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer from UCLA in the consolation round of 16. The Broncos fought hard, but fell 6-3, 6-3.

QUOTABLES
  • "It was an epic battle against one of the Blue Bloods of college tennis, and we gave ourselves great opportunities to come through," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "In the end, we just got a little too far behind in the 10 point tiebreaker in the third set to bring it back. I'm really proud of the way Maya and Zdena competed and represented the Broncos. As a brand new team, there is still a lot to tweak to get them to their best, and I know they'll be the first that will be hungry to keep on that path."
  • "I think our players will tell you they are pleased with their progress and are all in on the process," said Roghaar. "These two played really well together for a newly partnered team and their best is 100% still in front of them. As a program we are pleased to have been elevated to be in the main draw in such an elite event and won't be satisfied until we're on top. You have to love the process and the work that comes along with it. I know these two do, and I'm excited for what that means for the two of them and our team."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Broncos will host their second home tournament of the fall, Sept. 27-29, in the seventh edition of the Barb Chandler Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center. Competition is set to begin each day at 10 a.m. MT.
