BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Softball Head Coach Justin Shults has agreed to a contract extension through 2028-29, athletic director Jeramiah Dickey announced, Wednesday.
Â
"This contract goes a long way in moving us forward as a program," Shults said. "I am thankful to have the opportunity to continue to raise the bar for Boise State softball with the staff and student-athletes we have in place."
Â
Boise State has 251 wins over the last-eight seasons, most in the Mountain West. In 2022, Shults led the Broncos to 40 wins, a mark that tied the school record. Boise State earned a spot in multiple Top 25 polls, including a school-record No. 23 slot in late March.
Â
In 2023, the Broncos captured the Mountain West regular season title. Last spring, Boise State reached the final of the conference championship.
Â
A year ago, lights were installed at Huber Field inside Dona Larsen Park and outfielder Sophia Knight became the first freshman All-American in school history. In addition, infielder Sydney Groves set the Boise State sophomore record with 18 home runs, a total that tied her with Mykenzie Hanna for the Mountain West lead and 23rd nationally.
Â
This month, Groves, Knight and freshman first baseman Makenzie Butt have each received preseason recognition from national media outlets.
