BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis team started the spring campaign with a dominant 7-0 win over Weber State. The Broncos (1-0) won all three doubles matches and all six singles matches against the Wildcats (0-2). Zdena Safarova and Maya Dutta won at No. 1 doubles before tallying singles victories at No. 1 and 2, respectively. Bhakti Shah and Paula Schaefer clinched the doubles point with a triumph at No. 3 and the partners won their singles matches at No. 3 and No. 4.

Ryan Kershner and Lorelyz Marruffo capped the doubles round with a 6-4 win at No. 2. In singles, freshman Masa Viriant earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 6 to secure Boise State's fourth team point of the day. Ariadna Briones Ginesta won a three-set match at No. 5 to clinch the 7-0 victory for the Broncos.

Notables

Boise State is 14-1 in spring openers under head coach Beck Roghaar. The 7-0 win is the first of that margin since Jan. 20, 2018, when the Broncos defeated Whitman.
Maya Dutta, Zdena Safarova, Paula Schaefer and Masa Viriant each made their spring debuts in the Blue and Orange. Dutta and Safarova won at No. 1 doubles and all four student-athletes captured wins in singles.

What's Next

Boise State returns to Boas Indoor Tennis Center for a pair of matches on Jan. 24. The Broncos host Idaho State for a Noon match before competing against Lewis-Clark State at 6 p.m.
