Boise State to Host First Home Meet of 2025

  • THE MEET: The Broncos return to Boise to host their first home meet of the season on Friday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. MT. The meet will include Utah State and Sacramento State in ExtraMile Arena.
  • SCOUTING THE HORNETS: Sacramento State is currently 6-2 on the season with a 194.700 season-high team score at the Sacramento State Tri on Jan. 5. Boise State defeated the Hornets 195.575-193.000 last weekend in San Jose (Jan. 26). The Broncos are undefeated over the Hornets under head coach Tina Bird as they look to extend their win streak to 18. Boise State leads the all-time series 24-7.
  • SCOUTING THE AGGIES: Utah State has a 1-5 record with its most recent win being over BYU on Monday, Jan. 20, 196.000-195.750. This marks the first time the Aggies and Broncos will meet since the 2024 Mountain West Gymnastics Championships, where Boise State edged Utah State 195.550-195.500. The Broncos have won the last seven matchups between the two and hold an even 58-58-1 all-time record.
  • BARS QUEEN: Emily Lopez holds the 11th-highest average bars score in the nation with a 9.888. She ranks first among non-power 4 opponents and second in the west region, trailing behind Olympic gold-medalist Jade Carey.
  • EVENT CHAMPIONS: Lopez won her third bars title of the season and 16th of her career with a 9.900 at the quad meet at San Jose State (Jan. 26). Alyssa Vulaj scored a 9.875 on vault, securing her second title of the season on the apparatus. She has five-career vault championships. Bridget Kemp and Blake Pascal also picked up their first event titles of the season as they each took a share of the floor crown with a 9.825. It marked the first of Kemp's career and third of Pascal's.
  • BACK-TO-BACK: Lopez picked up her second MW Bars Specialist of the Week honor (Jan. 28) following her 9.900 performance on bars. She notched her 12th weekly MW honor of her career and eighth on bars.
  • IN THE RANKINGS: Boise State is No. 23 in the RoadToNationals team bars rankings with an average score of 48.994, the highest in the MW. The Broncos are also No. 26 in the beam rankings, boasting a 48.850 average score.
  • UP AND UP: The Broncos recorded a team season-high on vault, scoring a 48.850 on the event at the quad meet at San Jose State (Jan. 26). Boise State also matched a team season-high bars score of 49.125.
  • FRESHIE MAGIC: Kristina Shchennikova has notched the highest bars score of all freshmen for the second-consecutive meet, putting up a 9.850 on Jan. 20 and a 9.825 on Jan. 26.
  • RECORD WATCH: Lopez earned her 16th-career bars win at the quad meet in San Jose (Jan. 26), putting her in sole possession of third all-time for bars victories in program history. She now sits behind Emily Mulenhaupt (2018-22) in first with 22 wins and Lindsay Ward (2004-08) in second with 20.
  • PRESEASON EXPECTATIONS: Boise State came in at No. 33 in the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll, the 14th time since 2010 that the Broncos have earned a preseason national ranking. The Blue and Orange received 341 points and were the only team in the Mountain West to place in the top 36.
