
Ava de Leest Headlines Boise State Conference Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Boise State freshman goalkeeper Ava de Leest was named the Mountain West Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, the conference announced, Monday.

In addition, de Leest was named All-MW First Team and to the MW All-Newcomer Team. The Broncos garnered nine awards as a team.

Joining de Leest on the first team were senior defender Ali Chatterton and redshirt senior forward Kenzie MacMillan. Sophomore midfielder Jillian Anderson and junior defender Kaitlyn Slocum received second-team honors. Freshman midfielder Madie Donovan was named to the newcomer team with de Leest.

This season, de Leest has recorded six clean sheets to help lead Boise State to its second straight outright regular season title in the Mountain West. Her shutouts are tied for sixth on Boise State's single-season list and her 0.89 goals against average currently ranks sixth.

She is the second Bronco to win Defensive Player of the Year (Macie Nelson, 2020-21) and the second Boise State soccer student-athlete to earn Newcomer of the Year (Raimee Sherle, 2016). The Fullerton, Calif., native is the first MW player to win both awards in the same season.

MacMillan has 20 points this season (6 goals/8 assists). Her assist total is tied for the most on Boise State's all-time single-season list. MacMillan was a first-team selection in 2023 before missing last season with an injury.

Chatterton, has appeared in all 19 matches (17 starts) this season and anchored a backline that has the Broncos tied for the fewest goals allowed in the MW this season (17).

Anderson has four goals and three assists this season. She scored both Boise State goals in a 2-1 win at San Diego State, Oct. 16 and recorded a goal and an assist in the Broncos' 3-0 victory over Utah State, Oct. 30. She a member of the MW All-Newcomer Team last season.

Slocum started all-10 matches in conference play and is part of a backline that has yielded just six goals to MW opponents.

Donovan has three goals in conference games, including the game-winner at New Mexico, Oct. 19.
