No. 8 Broncos Take on Top-Seeded UNLV in Quarterfinal Showdown

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State women's basketball will take on the top seed and three-time defending Mountain West Champion, UNLV, in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Basketball Championships on Monday, March 10. The game will tip off at 1 p.m. MT and will be broadcast on the MW Network and 670 KBOI AM.

FIRST ROUND RECAP: Trailing 48-47 with 1:23 left on the clock, Boise State ended the game on a 7-0 run to take down Nevada, 54-48, in the opening round of the tournament. Tatum Thompson scored a team-high 14 points in the win, including a 6-of-7 performance from the free throw line.

GORDY'S GREATNESS: Head coach Gordy Presnell picked up his 21st all-time win in the MW Conference Tournament on Sunday, tying Don Flanagan (New Mexico, 1999-11) for the most in conference history. Presnell, who has won five MW tournament titles in his career, can break the record with a win against UNLV.

DEFENSIVE PROWESS: Boise State held Nevada to 48 points on Sunday, marking the fourth time this season the Broncos have held a team under 50 points. The Blue and Orange blocked a total of 10 shots in the contest, the fifth time this season the squad has had 10 or more blocks, and six different Broncos recorded a steal in the contest.

FREE POINTS: The Broncos made 21 shots from the free throw line against the Wolf Pack, tying their season-high. Dani Bayes led the way from the charity stripe, making seven out of her eight attempts, while Thompson went 6-of-9. Elodie Lalotte made all four of her free throw attempts.

SCOUTING THE REBELS: The Lady Rebels (24-6), who lead the league in scoring offense (75.5 points per game), have five players averaging in double figures. Amarachi Kimpson leads the squad with 13.9 points per game.Boise State and UNLV have combined to win seven of the last eight MW Tournament titles and six of the past seven regular season MW titles (the two squads were co-champions in 2017-18). 

LOOKING AHEAD: Should the Broncos prevail over UNLV, the squad will face the winner of New Mexico and San Diego State on Tuesday, March 11. That game would tip off at 6 p.m. MT and would be broadcast on the MW Network and 670 KBOI AM.
