FRISCO, Texas – Following a perfect 5-0 performance on the weekend, Boise State beach volleyball's Allyson Alden and Sharli O'Neil were named the Southland Conference Pair of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The duo, who helped the Broncos claim their first regular season championship in program history over the weekend, earned the honor for the second time this season. The pair previously garnered the recognition on March 4.
Alden and O'Neil played in five of the squad's six duals at the SLC Midseason Tournament over the weekend, all from the No. 2 position. Four of the pair's five duals were settled quickly, with the duo taking down Stephen F. Austin, Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese State and Nicholls State in straight sets.
In the final dual of the event against three-time defending champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the duo rallied back from a 23-21 first-set loss to claim the second set, 22-20. Trailing 6-9 in the deciding frame, the pair won nine of the next ten points to claim a 15-10 third-set victory and giving Boise State a 2-0 lead over the Islanders.
Following their performance over the weekend, the duo moved into third place in program history with 14 wins from the No. 2 court as a pair in a single season. The tandem can set the program record this weekend, trailing two separate pairs who hold the record with 15 victories.
The duo and the remainder of the Sandy Broncos will head to Salt Lake City, Utah for the Utah Beach Classic, which takes place March 28-29. Boise State will take on Oregon and Utah on Friday before facing off against UC Davis on Saturday.
