Boise State Sweeps MW Men’s Tennis Weekly Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State men's tennis swept the Mountain West player and freshman of the week honors as announced from the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tuesday.
Sophomore Carson Baker has been named the MW Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Lukas Velik received his first MW Freshman of the Week honor. It is the third MW Player of the Week and second MW Freshman of the Week honor earned by the program this year.
Baker led the team to a third-place finish at the 2024 Diablos College Invitational at Arizona State by going a combined 3-2 overall in singles and doubles matches versus UTSA, No. 41 Arizona State and No. 49 Washington.
Baker went 1-1 at No. 2 singles, with the third match being abandoned. He also went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with partner Jett Middleton.
In the victory over UTSA on Friday, Baker and Middleton won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. He then followed up with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to clinch the 4-0 team victory for Boise State.
In Boise State's match versus the host school No. 41 Arizona State, Baker and doubles partner Middleton upset the 56th-ranked doubles tandem in the country, defeating Bor Artnak and Matic Dimic 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. That win helped the Broncos take the team doubles point.
Velik played in two of the three contests last weekend, competing at the No. 3 singles position, where he went 1-1. On Saturday, he handed Soham Purohit his first dual loss this spring, beating him 6-3, 7-5. His victory helped the Broncos beat the 49th-ranked Huskies 4-2.
The Broncos are off this week before returning to action at home next week (March 14-15) when they host the Boise State Spring Fling featuring Montana State and Kennesaw State.
