Late Rally Pushes Broncos Past Wolf Pack

LAS VEGAS – Boise State women's basketball ended the game on a 7-0 run to secure a 54-48 victory over No. 9 Nevada in the opening round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Basketball Championships, Sunday.
Trailing 48-47 with 1:23 left on the clock, Tatum Thompson drilled her signature midrange jumper to give the Broncos (18-14) the lead. Boise State locked in defensively, registering two stops down the stretch and finishing the game 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to secure the victory.
Boise State advances to the quarterfinal round with the victory and will face top-seeded UNLV on Monday, March 10, at 1 p.m. MT.
Both teams struggled to score at the start, with Nevada leading 6-5 with three minutes left in the opening quarter. The Wolf Pack (11-21) used back-to-back baskets to propel an 8-2 run at the end of the frame to take a 14-7 advantage into the second period.
Abby Muse scored six points in the first three minutes of the second quarter as Boise State cut the lead to 19-17. Jayda Clark took the baton from Muse, finding Thompson for a layup before drilling a 3-pointer to knot the game at 24 with three minutes remaining in the half. Dani Bayes gave the Broncos the lead with a pair of free throws on the next possession and the Blue and Orange led 30-28 at intermission.
The two teams resorted back to the slow start in the opening quarter, with Boise State holding a narrow 32-31 lead at the media break. The Broncos failed to make a field goal in the quarter as Nevada held a 38-34 advantage heading into the final frame.
Clark tied the game at 42 with a pair of free throws midway through the final quarter, but Nevada hit back-to-back baskets to take a 46-42 lead. Natalie Pasco added a layup to cut the lead to two, and Thompson went 3-of-4 from the line on back-to-back possessions to give Boise State a 47-46 lead with two minutes remaining.
The Wolf Pack made a pair of free throws on the ensuing possession to regain the lead. With the shot clock winding down, Thompson drilled a midrange jumper to give Boise State a lead. The Broncos got a stop on the defensive end, leading to Bayes converting a pair of free throws to grab a 51-48 lead with 29 seconds remaining. Nevada committed a turnover out of the timeout, and Pasco secured the win for the Broncos with another pair of free throws.
