Four of Five Bronco Pairs Named All-Conference; Alden Also Recognized
FRISCO, Texas – Boise State beach volleyball head coach Allison Voigt was named the Southland Conference Coach of the Year, the league announced on Tuesday. Additionally, four of the Broncos' five pairs were named to one of the league's two all-conference teams, and Allyson Alden was also named the SLC Newcomer of the Year.
Three of the four Bronco pairs recognized earned a spot on the first team, the most of any team in the conference. Alden and Sharli O'Neil earned the position from the No. 2 court, Avery Allen and Abbie Wolf garnered the recognition from the No. 3 position, while Emilia Guerra-Acuña and Elli Wolthuis earned the honor from the No. 4 spot. Addison Moss and Lily Patock were named to the second team from the No. 5 position.
With this year's recognition, Wolthuis becomes the only Bronco in program history to be named first-team all-conference in three consecutive years. Both Guerra-Acuña and Patock have been recognized on all-conference teams in three-straight years, while O'Neil and Wolf garnered first-team accolades in back-to-back seasons. Alden, Allen and Moss all received the award for the first time in their careers.
The league recognizes two all-conferences teams as part of its postseason accolades, with each team consisting of a pair from each of the five positions. The conference also honors the league's top pair, newcomer, freshman and coach of the year. The honorees were voted upon by the league's head coaches.
Voigt was named the SLC Coach of the Year for the first time in her career after leading the program to its first regular season championship in program history. She led the Broncos to a 19-10 regular season finish, with the squad winning 15 of its last 16 contests prior of the year. Voigt extended the program's home-winning streak to 20 contests, a streak that dates back to the 2021 season, following a 5-0 performance on its home sand to wrap up the regular season.
Alden was named the top newcomer in the conference following a 19-9 indvidual record on the year. The transfer from MiraCosta College went 15-7 from the No. 2 position before moving to the team's top spot, going 4-2.
Alden played all 28 duals with partner Sharli O'Neil, a tandem that earned first-team honors from the No. 2 court. The duo pulled off a pair of ranked victories on the season, defeating No. 11 Arizona State and No. 18 Grand Canyon. The pair recorded a 6-1 mark against conference foes on the year, and ended the regular season with a thrilling three-set match win over Arizona on April 13 to clinch a 3-2 victory for the Blue and Orange.
Allen and Wolf garnered first-team recognition following a 12-8 record on the season. The pair recorded three ranked victories on the year (No. 9 Long Beach State, No. 12 Florida Atlantic and No. 13 Texas) and won both of the conference matches they were paired together for, including a critical straight-set win against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Guerra-Acuña and Wolthuis were recognized as the best No. 4 pair in the conference after recording a 10-3 regular season mark. Paired together for the SLC Midseason Tournament, the duo rattled off five-straight conference victories. The tandem also won all five of their home contests.
Moss and Patock were recognized as the No. 5 pair on the second team after posting an 8-5 record on the season. The duo went 5-1 against conference foes and went 2-1 together at the Boise State Classic.
Boise State beach volleyball will look to capture its first Southland Conference Championship trophy at the SLC Beach Volleyball Championship. The Broncos will begin the three-day, double-elimination tournament on Wednesday, April 23 at 11 a.m. MT against the winner of No. 8 New Orleans and No. 9 Nicholls State.
