
Roghaar Named MW Coach of the Year

Four Broncos also Recognized on MW Women’s Tennis All-Tournament Team
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State women's tennis head coach Beck Roghaar was named the 2024-25 Mountain West Coach of the Year, the conference announced Thursday afternoon.

The recognition came alongside four Broncos earning All-Mountain West tournament singles honors. Zdena Safarova was selected for All-MW honors in No. 1 singles, Maya Dutta in No. 2 singles, Paula Schaefer in No. 4 singles, and Masa Viriant in No. 6 singles.

Roghaar, in his 15th season as head coach, earned his third conference coach of the year award after leading the Broncos to a 19-5 record and their first conference championship since 2010. The 19 wins are the seventh-most single-season victories in Boise State women's tennis history. The Broncos also won seven MW matches, the most conference victories since joining the MW in 2012.

He became just the fourth coach in program history to win a conference championship and is six victories away from tying the record for most career wins by a head coach (181).

Safarova, who was also named MVP of the Mountain West Tournament, went undefeated in singles play at the No. 1 position, winning all three of her matches to help lead the Broncos to the title. Dutta also went 3-0 at the No. 2 spot, contributing to the team's success in the tournament. Schaefer finished 2-0 at No. 4, and led her third match by a set before it concluded. At No. 6, Viriant went 2-0, delivering the clinching point in both the semifinal and championship matches to secure the Broncos' tournament victory.

Boise State will compete against Baylor in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship on Friday, May 2, at 9 a.m. MT.
