
Helms Advances to Nationals; Seven Broncos Qualify for NCAA First Round Competition

BOISE, Idaho – Landon Helms punched his spot to compete at the 2025 Division 1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, while seven Boise State track and field athletes qualified for 2025 Division 1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships West Preliminary Rounds, the NCAA announced Thursday.

The West Preliminary Round will be held May 28-31 in College Station, Texas, and the 2025 Division 1 Outdoor Track & Field Championships are scheduled for June 11-14 in Eugene, Oregon.

Helms, the 2025 Mountain West men's decathlon champion, earned direct qualification to the national championships with a score of 7673, the 19th highest in the country. He is the first male Boise State track and field athlete to represent the university at the NCAA Championships since David Elliott in 2016. Helms is also the first Bronco decathlete since Kurt Felix, who won the national title in 2012.

At the regional meet, Kaiya Robertson will compete in the 1,500-meter, entering with the 11th-fastest 1,500m time in the West Region. Hanna Ackermann and Abby Kendrick will both run in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, marking the second-consecutive year Boise State will have two athletes in the event.

In the 800-meter, Janiah Brown returns to the West Preliminary Round for the third time in her career.

Tom Graham-Marr qualified in the 1,500m, an event in which he holds the fastest time in program history. Joe Hudson qualified for the 10,000-meter and will make his first appearance at regionals, and Austen Apperson (3,000m steeplechase) will also compete in College Station.

The top 12 finishers in each individual event and the top 12 relay teams from each preliminary round will advance to the championships. A list of qualifiers from the preliminary rounds will be released by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 1, with the final list of national championship participants announced by 3 p.m. ET on Tuesday, June 3.
