
Senior Day Sweep for Boise State

With the win, the Broncos (33-20, 11-11 Mountain West) completed a three-game sweep of the Aggies (26-25, 11-11).

Boise State earned the No. 4 seed in the MW Softball Championship and will face the fifth-seeded Aggies at 3 p.m. PT/4 p.m. MT, Wednesday, May 7 in San Diego, California.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the first thanks to three walks and an Aggie miscue.

After Utah State tied the game in the top of the second, Mykenzie Hanna put Boise State on top 2-1 with an RBI-single in the bottom of the frame.

The Broncos left no doubt by scoring seven runs on nine hits while sending 13 batters to the plate in the third. The damage was done after the first-two hitters of the inning struck out.

Sydney Groves started the rally with a single and Quinn Southerland followed with a two-run home run. Chloe Hughes went back-to-back with Southerland to make the score 5-1.

Sophia Knight singled, stole second and came home on Hanna's two-run home run. Makenzie Butt walked, Brooklynn Pettis singled and Leah McAnally doubled home both runners to stretch the lead to 9-1.

Boise State added three runs in the fourth on a run-scoring single by Hanna and a two-run home run by Butt.

Brook Thompson (10-4) gave up one run in 3 1/3 innings to earn the victory.

- Boise State's four home runs, Saturday set a school season record with 84.
- The Broncos collected 32 total bases to set a school season record at 862.
- Three Boise State freshmen (Makenzie Butt, Chloe Hughes and Quinn Southerland) homered in a game for the first time since March 22, 2010 (second game of a doubleheader) against Weber State.
- Butt set a Boise State record with her 22nd home run of the season…tied Mountain West freshman record and tied for fifth overall in MW history.
- Butt knocked in two runs to raise her Boise State record to 76.
- Butt became the seventh freshman in NCAA history with 20 or more home runs and 75 or more RBI.
- Butt walked for the 39th time to add to her school record.
- Butt scored twice to move into third place on Boise State's single-season list with 55 runs.
- Butt moved into second place on the Bronco single-season list for total bases with 134.
- Mykenzie Hanna scored three times to raise her Boise State record to 67 runs and move into third place all-time in the Mountain West.
- Hanna recorded four RBI to tie for fourth on the Bronco single-season list with 52.
- Hanna became the fourth Bronco in school history (second this year along with Butt) to have 50 RBI/50 runs in the same season.
- Hanna walked for the 34th time this season, tied for fourth in Boise State history.
- Knight became the first Division 1 softball student-athlete since 2002 to register a 100-hit season before a conference tournament or NCAA regional.
- Knight scored twice to set a Mountain West sophomore record with 63 runs…tied for fifth overall in the MW and second at Boise State.
- Knight tripled for the fourth time this season, tied for second on the Bronco single-season list and one shy of the school record.
