
Mitchell Named MW Defensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State senior Bre Mitchell has been named the Mountain West Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 25-31. This is the second time in Mitchell's career that she has earned this MW award.

The Temecula, California native, led the Broncos defensively in digs during all three contests over the weekend as Boise State went 3-0 to win the Utah Valley Invitational. Boise State recorded victories over Navy (3-2), Montana (3-0) and Utah Valley (3-2).
The All-Utah Valley Invitational Team honoree played libero in all three matches, recording a team-high 73 digs to go with a serve receive percentage of .978, making only one error on 45 receptions.
Mitchell recorded two matches with 20-plus digs, one with over 30, and averaged a team-high 5.62 digs per set.
In the season-opening five-set win over Navy, she recorded a Boise State career-high 32 digs, tied for seventh in a five-set match during the Rally Scoring Era (since 2001). It was her 13th career match with 20-plus digs and first with 30-plus (at Boise State).
In the second match on Friday – a three-set win over Montana – the senior led the team with 18 digs to go with four assists.
In the third victory of the week – a five-set win over Utah Valley – Mitchell once again came up big defensively, recording a team-high 23 digs, the 14th 20-plus match of her career.
Mitchell and the Broncos are in Boise this week for the first of two consecutive home tournaments. This week's Boise State Classic will be Thursday through Saturday, and feature Arizona, Oregon State and UC San Diego.
