Broncos Set to Open Spring Season Against Bengals

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State will open its 2026 spring campaign against Idaho State on Sunday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. The match will be played at a neutral site in the Treasure Valley, with competition set for the Boise Racquet and Swim Club.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS: Idaho State will also open its season with this match after finishing the 2025 season 10-12. Boise State has won 21 consecutive matches against the Bengals and controls the all-time series, 27-18.
DEFENDING MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPS: The Broncos claimed their first conference tournament championship since 2010 by winning the 2025 Mountain West Tournament. Boise State defeated Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV en route to the MW title.
COACH OF THE YEAR: Head coach Beck Roghaar, in his 16th season at the helm, was named Mountain West and ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The former marked his third conference Coach of the Year honor, while the latter was the first regional recognition of his career, making him just the second coach in program history to receive the award.
WIN WIN WIN: Boise State closed out the 2025 season by winning 10 of its final 11 dual matches, with the lone loss coming against No. 14 Texas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
IN THE RECORD BOOK: Zdena Safarova enters the 2026 season tied for the sixth-most career No. 1 singles wins (21). Gaye McManus holds the program record with 50 wins at the top singles spot from 1994-98.
ALL-MW RETURNERS: In 2025, Safarova earned All-Mountain West honors in singles and doubles and was named MW Tournament MVP and MW All-Tournament No. 1 Singles. Paula Schaefer earned All-Tournament No. 4 Singles honors, while Masa Viriant was named All-Tournament No. 6 Singles.
FALL SUCCESS: Kansas State transfer and junior Tereza Polakova led the way in the fall, earning 13 singles wins.
THE ROSTER: Boise State's 2026 roster features six returners: Ryan Kershner (senior), Lorelyz Marruffo (redshirt senior), Ella Piron (junior), Safarova (junior), Schaefer (sophomore) and Viriant (sophomore); two transfers: Allison Isaacs (senior) and Tereza Polakova (junior); and two freshmen: Stella Beldiman and Carla Grignac.
UPDATED STAFF: Shah, who graduated in 2025, returns to the program as an assistant coach, while Shauna Heffernan will continue as an assistant, assuming duties previously held by former assistant Errol Smith.
