Broncos Return Home for Full Weekend Slate

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State will host three matches this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader against BYU and Montana State on Friday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. MT and 6 p.m., respectively. The Broncos will then face Santa Clara on Sunday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. All matches will be played at the BOAS Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS: BYU enters the weekend with a 3-1 record following a 6-1 win over Cal Poly. The Cougars lead the all-time series 21-2 and have won the last 10 meetings. Boise State's last win over BYU came on Feb. 5, 2011.

SCOUTING THE BOBCATS: Montana State (3-1) comes to Boise following a victory over Mountain West member Colorado State. The Broncos and Bobcats last met in 2023, when Boise State earned a 4-1 win at the BOAS Tennis Center.

SCOUTING THE BRONCOS: Santa Clara (0-1) will also square off with Boise State in its third match of the season after facing Montana State on Saturday. The match will mark the first meeting between the two programs since 2014 and just the third all time. Each team has one win in the series.

MW WEEKLY AWARDS: Carla Grignac earned both MW Player and Freshman of the Week honors following her victory at the No. 6 singles position against nationally ranked Washington. She became the third player in MW history and the second in program history to earn both honors in the same week.

IN THE RANKINGS: BYU's doubles team of Kendall Kovick and Gracie Levelston is ranked No. 28 nationally.

DEFENDING MW CHAMPS: The Broncos claimed their first conference tournament championship since 2010 by winning the 2025 MW Tournament. Boise State defeated Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV en route to the MW title.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Head coach Beck Roghaar, in his 16th season at the helm, was named MW and ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The former marked his third conference Coach of the Year honor, while the latter was the first regional recognition of his career, making him just the second coach in program history to receive the award.

IN THE RECORD BOOK: Zdena Safarova sits tied for the sixth-most career No. 1 singles wins (21). Gaye McManus holds the program record with 50 wins at the top singles spot from 1994-98.

ALL-MW RETURNERS: In 2025, Safarova earned All-MW honors in singles and doubles and was named MW Tournament MVP and MW All-Tournament No. 1 Singles. Paula Schaefer earned All-Tournament No. 4 Singles honors, while Masa Viriant was named All-Tournament No. 6 Singles.

THE ROSTER: Boise State's 2026 roster features six returners: Ryan Kershner (senior), Lorelyz Marruffo (redshirt senior), Ella Piron (junior), Safarova (junior), Schaefer (sophomore) and Viriant (sophomore); two transfers: Isaacs (senior) and Polakova (junior); and two freshmen: Beldiman and Grignac.

UPDATED STAFF: Shah, who graduated in 2025, returns to the program as an assistant coach, while Shauna Heffernan will continue as an assistant, assuming duties previously held by former assistant Errol Smith.
