Broncos Valiantly Battle Back in Three Overtime Loss to Aztecs

1/4/2026 12:09:00 AM | Men's Basketball

SAN DIEGO — Boise State dropped a three-overtime thriller, losing to San Diego State on Saturday night, 110-107, at Viejas Arena.

Five Broncos (9-5, 1-2 MW) scored in double figures. Javan Buchanan paced all players with a game-high 29 points.

Andrew Meadow notched 25 points in the contests, while Drew Fielder and Dylan Andrews each had 16. Aginaldo Neto scored 13 off the bench.

For San Diego State (9-4, 3-0 MW), BJ Davis collected 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Elzie Harrington had 20 points, and Reese Dixon Wasters added 16.

In the opening 4:28 of Saturday's game, three Broncos cracked the scoring column. Upon reaching the first media timeout, both Boise State and San Diego State were deadlocked at eight apiece.

After seesawing back and forth for the opening 10 minutes, the Aztecs created separation. Midway through the period, the Aztecs used a 12-1 run to forge ahead by 10.

From there, the Aztecs were in full control. Spanning the first half, San Diego State shot 66 percent from the floor and led by as many as 24 points, with nine players totaling at least two.

Conversely, Boise State made 10 of its 30 field goals in the period, and was 4-for-19 from three. Meadow led all players with 11 points in the frame, but the Broncos trailed, 50-29, at the intermission.

Boise State, however, began to chip away at the deficit in the second half. In the first eight-plus minutes of the period, the Broncos sliced San Diego State's lead in half and trailed by 12 with 11:58 to play.

Following the under-12 media timeout, Boise State inched even closer. Buchanan knocked down his second, third and fourth triple of the evening to pull the team to within five.

With 4:02 remaining in the game, the Broncos tied the game at 73. Fielder poured in Boise State's 12th long of the game followed by a driving layup by Meadow.

Over the final four minutes, neither team led by more than three. With the clock winding down in regulation, Andrews missed a mid-range jumper to send the game to overtime.

In the extra session, the Broncos led by six with 18 seconds left to play. In stunning comeback fashion, San Diego State capped the first overtime on a 6-0 run and sent the game to a second OT with the game tied at 93.

To start the second overtime, the Aztecs scored the first five points. Not going away quietly, Boise State tallied the final five points and sent the game to a third overtime.

Capping the game in the third overtime, San Diego State outscored the Broncos 12-9. Meadow attempted a three to keep the game going, but the shot was unsuccessful.
