Broncos Head to Logan for Utah State Dual

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State travels to Logan, Utah, for a Mountain West meet against Utah State. The Broncos and Aggies will compete at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20.

SCOUTING UTAH STATE: Utah State enters this meet with an NQS of 195.638, highest in the Mountain West. The Aggies also have the conference's top NQS on bars (48.958) and floor (49.083). Nyla Morabito (9.830) and Sydney Jelen (9.820) have the MW's best NQS on vault and beam, respectively. Isabella Vater (9.870 on floor) and Olivia Orengo (9.830) on bars) rank second in the league. Seven Aggies have combined for 11 MW weekly honors, led by Vater with three on floor. Utah State is Boise State's most common opponent, with Friday marking the teams' 122nd meeting. The Broncos trail the all-time series, 59-61-1, but hold a 46-7-1 record under Tina Bird. The teams last met in Boise on Jan. 30, 2026, with the Aggies edging the Broncos, 195.350-195.250.
BEAM QUEENS: Boise State had its best rotation of the season at the Feb. 15 Metroplex Challenge, scoring 49.125 on beam. Miraya Nero and Kristina Shchennikova led the way at 9.900, both posting career-highs and becoming the first Broncos to tally a 9.900 in any event this season. This was the first time the team had multiple 9.900 beam scores in a meet since the 2024 Mountain West Championships. Sydney Kho (9.875) and Brantley Lucas (9.700) matched their career-highs while Isabella Delarosa rounded out the lineup with a 9.750.
WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS: Following their performances at the Feb. 15 Metroplex Challenge, Miraya Nero and Kristina Shchennikova were named Mountain West Co-Beam Specialists of the Week, with Nero adding MW Co-Freshman of the Week. Nero has three MW weekly awards this season, most on the team. This marks Shchennikova's first weekly honor of the year and ninth of her career, with four of those being MW Beam Specialist of the Week.
FANTASTIC FRESHMAN: Miraya Nero was also named Mountain West Co-Freshman of the Week after her Jan. 16 performance at BYU, where she won the all-around crown with a 39.075 and tied for second on beam with a 9.825. She is the first Boise State freshman to win an all-around title since 2017 (Courtney McGregor) and first Bronco to secure a MW Specialist of the Week award this year. She posted a career-high 9.850 on floor and 39.100 in the all-around in the Jan. 30 home quad, Boise State's best all-around score since 2021 (Hope Masiado). She was the vault runner-up at the Metroplex Challenge on Feb. 15, scoring 9.850, Boise State's highest mark on the apparatus this season.
KRISTINA KEEPS IT GOING: Kristina Shchennikova won a share of the bars crown in Boise State's Feb. 6 quad, recording a 9.875, Boise State's highest individual score of the year. It gave the sophomore her first-career win on the apparatus. She has four overall wins in her career, posting three on beam last season. She is the only gymnast on the Boise State roster with a title in multiple events in her career. With her 9.675 floor debut at the Feb. 15 Metroplex Challenge, she joins all-around gymnast Miraya Nero as the only Broncos to compete in three or more events this season. Sydney Leitch is the only other Bronco to compete in three or more events in her career (bars, beam, floor).
SEASON-BESTS AT THE X: In addition to a team-high overall score (195.350), Boise State notched season-best event scores on vault (48.850) and bars (48.975) in the Feb. 6 home quad. The vault score was obtained despite only having five routines, with all five scoring 9.750 or higher. Kristina Shchennikova won the bars crown while Kylee Hamby (9.850) matched her season-high and Carly Buell (9.800) posted her top score of the year.
FLOURISHING ON FLOOR: Boise State posted a season-best 49.075 on floor in the Jan. 30 home quad, led by Blake Pascal, who finished second with a 9.875. Pascal has scored 9.800 or higher and led the Broncos in four meets this year. Miraya Nero added a career-high 9.850 while Delaney Reeves posted a 9.825, the second-best mark of her career. Reeves has led the Broncos in the last two meets, scoring 9.800 both times. She has tallied a 9.800 or better in four of her last five routines.
LOCAL LEGEND: Freshman Isabella Delarosa, a Meridian, Idaho native, competed at home for the first time on Jan. 30, scoring 9.825 on beam to earn a share of the event title, the first of her career. The following week, she posted a career-high 9.800 on vault, Boise State's highest score in the Feb. 6 home quad.
KHO-BOOM: Senior Sydney Kho captured her first vault title of the year and second of her career at Air Force on Jan. 23, tallying a season-high 9.825. The senior has appeared in Boise State's vault lineup in all but one meet since joining the Broncos, completing 41 routines.
PRESEASON POLLS: Boise State was tabbed first in the Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 27 of 30 points and two first-place votes. The Broncos were tabbed 32nd in the WCGA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Last year, the Broncos were 32nd in the final rankings, tallying a 196.115 NQS. They ended the regular season ranked 30th overall and 20th on bars, registering a team NQS of 49.240.
RING SEASON: One season after winning the inaugural Mountain West Championships, Boise State won the 2025 MW regular season crown. The Broncos had the league's top NQS on bars (49.240), beam (49.080) and floor (49.105) last year. This season, the Broncos will host the Mountain West Championships in ExtraMile Arena.
BIRD BACK WITH THE BRONCOS: Head coach Tina Bird is in her 19th season at the helm, serving as co-head coach from 2008-19 before becoming the lone head coach in 2020. From 1990-2007, she was an assistant coach for Boise State. Bird was a gymnast at Boise State from 1986-89, holding the school's floor record for four years. In her 36 years on staff, Boise State has produced 34 NCAA Regional appearances, 15 conference titles and 13 All-Americans. Bird has earned the conference coach of the year eight times, including the last two awards in the Mountain West.
ALL-MOUNTAIN WEST RETURNERS: Boise State returns three All-Mountain West selections from last season, led by Co-Freshman of the Year Kristina Shchennikova, who was also a second-team selection on bars. She earned MW Freshman of the Week five times and MW Beam Specialist of the Week three times throughout the 2025 campaign, winning three beam titles during her rookie year. Also coming back for the Broncos are two All-MW floor selections. First-team honoree Blake Pascal returns for her fifth year and second-team honoree Bridget Kemp is back for her sophomore campaign. Pascal has four-career wins on floor with Kemp adding two.
