Broncos Claim Three Victories at Beach Burrow Bash

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Boise State beach volleyball finished its season-opening weekend with three wins, defeating Coastal Carolina, Florida International and Palm Beach Atlantic at the Beach Burrow Bash. The Broncos' (3-1) only loss on the weekend came at the hands of the host school, No. 15 Florida Atlantic.

The Broncos opened the season with a tight contest against Florida International. After dropping the first point to the Panthers, Keira Demirjian and Lily Patock came back from a first-set loss to secure a point from court four. The two opponents split the next two matches on courts two and three, sending the dual's outcome to the top court. Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden prevailed, claiming a 21-17,18-21, 15-12 win to give the Broncos the victory.

In its next match, Boise State dropped the first two matches against No. 15 Florida Atlantic to fall in a 2-0 hole. Avery Bowidowicz and Summer McCann nearly secured a point from court five but ultimately fell 17-15 in the third set. Allyson Alden and Serena van der Made secured the sole point against the Owls, winning in straight sets from court two.

The Broncos started slow on the second day of competition, dropping their first two matches from courts four and five against Coastal Carolina. Avery Allen and Addison Moss responded by putting Boise State on the board with a straight-set victory from the No. 3 position. Alden and van der Made tied the dual with a thrilling three-set comeback victory on court two, setting up Anderson and Wolden to do the same from the top court to give the Broncos their second victory of the weekend.

Boise State split the opening two matches of the final match of the weekend against Palm Beach Atlantic. Alden and van der Made cruised to a 21-10, 21-10 victory on court two and moments later, Allen and Moss clinched the dual with a straight-set win from the No. 3 slot. Anderson and Wolden won their third three-set match of the weekend to secure a 4-1 Bronco victory.

- Boise State defeated two opponents (Coastal Carolina, Florida International) who are receiving votes in the AVCA Collegiate Beach Preseason Poll. The Broncos are also receiving votes in the ranking.
- Allyson Alden and newcomer Serena van der Made finished the weekend a perfect 4-0, all from court two. The duo dropped one set on the entire weekend.
- Head coach Alex Venardos earned his first career victory in the dual against Florida International.
- Keira Demirjian joined van der Made as the two Broncos who earned their first career victories on the weekend.

- Alden picked up her 19th career victory from the No. 2 position, sliding into third place in program history. Alden passed Sharli O'Neil (16), Emilia Guerra-Acuña (15) and Sierra Land (15).

What's Next
The Broncos will head to the opposite coast to take part in the Battle of LA from Feb. 27-28. Boise State will take on a trio of top 10 opponents in No. 1 UCLA, No. 3 Cal Poly and No. 7 Loyola Marymount while also facing off against CSUN.
