2/5/2026 11:00:00 AM | Women's Tennis

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State will travel to San Luis Obispo, California, to face Cal Poly on Feb. 6 and Saint Mary's on Feb. 7.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: Cal Poly enters the match 1-2, most recently defeating UC Davis 6-1. The Broncos and Mustangs share one common opponent this season, as both fell to BYU. Cal Poly finished the 2025 campaign 19-5 and leads the all-time series 2-0, with wins in 1995 and 1996.

SCOUTING THE GAELS: Saint Mary's (1-1) will face the Broncos following a week of rest. The Gaels defeated Dominican 7-0 on Jan. 23 before falling 6-1 to Sacramento State on Jan. 31. The meeting marks the fifth all-time matchup between the two programs. The teams last met in 2011, when Saint Mary's earned its lone series victory.

APPROACHING HISTORY: Head coach Beck Roghaar (2011-pres.) is two wins away from tying and three wins from breaking the program's all-time head coach wins record (182).

MW WEEKLY AWARDS: Carla Grignac earned both MW Player and Freshman of the Week honors following her victory at the No. 6 singles position against nationally ranked Washington. She became the third player in MW history and the second in program history to earn both honors in the same week.

DEFENDING MW CHAMPS: The Broncos claimed their first conference tournament championship since 2010 by winning the 2025 MW Tournament. Boise State defeated Fresno State, San Diego State and UNLV en route to the MW title.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Roghaar, in his 16th season at the helm, was named MW and ITA Mountain Region Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. The former marked his third conference Coach of the Year honor, while the latter was the first regional recognition of his career, making him just the second coach in program history to receive the award.

IN THE RECORD BOOK: Zdena Safarova holds the sixth-most career No. 1 singles wins (23). Gaye McManus holds the program record with 50 wins at the top singles spot from 1994-98.

ALL-MW RETURNERS: In 2025, Safarova earned All-MW honors in singles and doubles and was named MW Tournament MVP and MW All-Tournament No. 1 Singles. Paula Schaefer earned All-Tournament No. 4 Singles honors, while Masa Viriant was named All-Tournament No. 6 Singles.

THE ROSTER: Boise State's 2026 roster features six returners: Ryan Kershner (senior), Lorelyz Marruffo (redshirt senior), Ella Piron (junior), Safarova (junior), Schaefer (sophomore) and Viriant (sophomore); two transfers: Allison Isaacs (senior) and Tereza Polakova (junior); and two freshmen: Stella Beldiman and Grignac.

UPDATED STAFF: Bhakti Shah, who graduated in 2025, returns to the program as an assistant coach, while Shauna Heffernan will continue as an assistant, assuming duties previously held by former assistant Errol Smith.
