Broncos Slip Past Bulldogs

BOISE, Idaho – Kaylee Vieira delivered a pinch hit, go-ahead, RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth and Boise State held on to beat Fresno State 3-2, Saturday.
 
With the game tied 1-1, Kate Penberthy led off the sixth with a walk. A sacrifice by Talia Jenkins moved pinch runner Grace Peffley into scoring position and a walk to Hollie Farmer set the stage for Vieira.
 
The junior smashed a hit through the left side to plate Peffley and give Boise State (17-17, 3-2 Mountain West) a 2-1 lead. The Broncos added an insurance run when Farmer scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the top of the seventh, Fresno State (12-13, 1-4) scored once and had the tying run at second with zero outs. Skylar Stroh then snared a line drive and beat the runner to the bag for an unassisted double play to squelch the rally.
 
NOTES
  • Freshman Loula-Rae McNamara is 2-0 with two saves over 12 1/3 innings in her last four relief outings…leads the NCAA with 28 appearances.
  • Boise State has scored seven of its eight runs in the series in the fifth inning or later.
  • Skylar Stroh was 2-for-4 and leads the Broncos with a .343 batting average and 36 hits.

  • Boise State and Fresno State conclude their three-game series, Sunday with first pitch scheduled for noon.
