Allen, Demirjian Named Big 12 Pair of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Boise State's Beach Volleyball's Avery Allen and Keira Demirjian have been named the Big 12 Pair of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The honor marks the first time a Bronco duo has been awarded pair of the week recognition since joining the Big 12.

The pair went a perfect 4-0 at the Death Volley Invitational over the weekend, including three victories over ranked opponents. All four of their opponents were dispatched in straight sets.

The tandem opened the weekend by defeating No. 9 California's Gia Fisher and Ava Haughy in a tightly contested 22-20, 21-18 battle. The duo then defeated Georgia State's Kealy Dirner and Ella Mozeleski 21-13, 21-18.

With Boise State in a 2-0 hole against No. 6 Florida State, Allen and Demirjian took down Kyleene Filimaua and Jess Horwath 21-19, 21-17 to put a point on the board. Against No. 12 LSU, the duo defeated Camryn Chatellier and Aubrey O'Gorman 21-19, 7-0 (forfeit) to score the lone Bronco point of the dual.

The pair, who started playing together in the No. 3 position two weekends ago at the Carolina Challenge, improved to 7-1 on the season following the undefeated weekend.

The award marks the second pair of the week distinction for Allen, a sophomore who also claimed a Southland Conference Pair of the Week award last year with partner Abbie Wolf at the No. 3 slot. That duo was also recognized as the SLC Pair of the Tournament following Boise State's conference championship last April. The award marks the first recognition for Demirjian.

Boise State will compete in its first Big 12 event this weekend at the Big 12 Preview, hosted by TCU. The Broncos will compete in a total of four duals over the course of the two-day event.
