BOISE, Idaho – For the first time in program history, Boise State Beach Volleyball is ranked in the weekly AVCA Collegiate Beach Poll.
The Broncos (9-11, 1-2 Big 12) came in ranked No. 20 in the poll following a strong performance at the Big 12 Preview this past weekend.
Boise State, who has been receiving votes all season, defeated No. 20 Arizona and No. 19 South Carolina at the Big 12 Preview. The victories marked the fifth and sixth ranked wins in program history and marked the first time the program had defeated a pair of ranked opponents on the same weekend.
"This is a great step for our program," head coach Alex Venardos said. "The goal for a while now has been to become a program that is always in the rankings and winning games at the NCAA National Tournament. This last weekend shows that we are continuing to climb towards that goal. I'm proud of our team."Â
The program has had a rigorous schedule in its first season as members of the Big 12. All but one member of the conference is ranked in the poll, including No. 5 Florida State, No. 7 TCU, No. 12 Arizona State and No. 18 South Carolina. Ten of the Broncos' 11 losses have come at the hands of ranked opponents.
The Broncos will return to the Treasure Valley with back-to-back weekends of home tournaments. Boise State, who boasts a 20-dual home winning streak dating back to 2020, will host the Boise State Classic, April 3-4, and the Boise State Beach Bash, April 10-11.
