IRVING, Texas – Following a 4-0 performance at the Boise State Beach Bash this past weekend, beach volleyball players Ava Anderson and Addison Wolden were named the Big 12 Pair of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Â
The award marks the second time the 19th-ranked Broncos (15-13, 2-1 Big 12) have claimed the honor this season. Avery Allen and Keira Demirjian earned the recognition on March 24. Boise State is one of three programs in the conference that have won multiple pair of the week awards, and one of two schools that have had two separate pairs receive the honor.Â
Â
Anderson and Wolden played from the No. 2 position the entire weekend at the Boise State Beach Bash. The tandem opened the event by defeating South Florida's Isabella Almeida and Zoey Mitchell, 21-15, 21-17. After dropping the first set to Florida International's Nicole Robinson and Madalyn Wade, the duo clawed back to win, 13-21, 21-19, 15-10.
Â
The pair also lost the first set against No. 11 Grand Canyon's Sarah Edler and Katie Keefe on Saturday, but stormed back to a 16-21, 21-16, 15-11 victory. The duo concluded the weekend by securing the Broncos' only point in the loss to Washington, taking down Youna Coens and Jordyn Decker 21-19, 21-16.
Â
The award adds to the resume of the pair, who earlier this season broke the program record for most career wins (39). The tandem currently boasts a 19-9 record on the season, the most wins of any pair on the current roster and the ninth-most by a Bronco duo in a single season.
Â
Boise State will conclude the regular season at the Alki Invitational on April 17-18 in Seattle, Wash. The Broncos will then head to Tucson, Ariz., the following weekend for the Big 12 Conference Championship on April 23-24.
