WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State women's golf will compete in the 2026 Mountain West Championship, April 21-23. The Broncos will be among 10 teams playing at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. Boise State players will tee off from 9:20-10 a.m. MT on the first day. Tee times for the second and third rounds will be determined by the most recent standings.

THE FIELD: Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, San Jose State, UNLV, Wyoming.

LAST TIME OUT: Boise State finished seventh at the Cowgirl Classic, shooting an 874 (+10). Leia Chung tied for 13th at 216 (E) and Callia Ward tied for 25th at 219 (+3) to pace the Broncos. The team's opening-round score of 288 (E) marked its best of the spring season. Chung and Brooke Patterson tied for the lowest 18-hole score, with Patterson carding a 70 (-2) in the opening round and Chung equaling that mark on the final day.

BACK LIKE SHE NEVER LEFT: Chung, a two-time Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Week and the program's all-time leader in career scoring average, returned to competition at the Golfweek Fall Challenge after missing the 2024-25 season due to injury. She won the tournament, setting program and tournament records for a 54-hole score (199, -14). Chung finished nine strokes ahead of the field, tying the largest margin of victory in program history, set by Acey Erlandson in 1999.

TWO TITLES: Chung also captured the individual title at the New Mexico Golf Iconic Classic, firing a 207 (-9) and leading the Broncos to the team crown (851, -12). Boise State's team score was the second-best in school history and its 18-hole (276, -12) and 36-hole (561, -15) scores are the lowest in program history. Chung has three individual titles in her career, one shy of Samantha Martin's school record.

YEAR FIVE AT THE HELM: Head coach Kailin Downs is in her fifth season leading the Broncos. Through five fall tournaments, the team's scoring average was 292.67, the lowest in program history. In 2024, she guided the team to the second-lowest scoring average in program history (296.74) and set school records for lowest 36-hole score (566, -10) and lowest 54-hole score (846, -18). Downs recently signed a two-year contract extension, keeping her with the program through the 2028 season.

ALL-CONFERENCE RETURNER: Matsueda earned All-MW Second Team honors for the 2024-25 season, becoming the first Bronco since 2018-19 to receive all-conference recognition.

IN THE RECORD BOOK: Several players are featured prominently in the Boise State record book. Chung holds the second, fourth, and seventh-lowest individual 36-hole scores in program history while Jillian Hui is tied for fourth and Matsueda is tied for sixth. Chung's season average of 72.44 is the second-best in school history and Matsueda's average of 74.19 ranks eighth. Chung (72.99) and Matsueda (73.69) hold the top-two career scoring averages in program history, while Hui (75.54) is tied for sixth. Chung holds four of the top-six 36-hole scores in program history, with Hui (2), Matsueda (1) and Brooke Patterson (1) each recording at least one score in the top-10. Chung also boasts six of the top-nine 54-hole scores in school history, with Hui and Patterson tying for the fourth-best mark.

SUCCESS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST: Since Kailin Downs was named head coach in 2021, the Broncos have seen unprecedented levels of success at the Mountain West Championship. The last four tournaments have featured the program's four-lowest 54-hole scores in conference championship history, including a school-record 884 (+20) in 2023. Seven of the top nine 18-hole scores have been achieved under Downs, with the 2023 squad carding a school-record 288 (E) in the opening round. Five of the top seven individual rounds have been recorded in the last four seasons, with Leia Chung holding three of those at 71 (-1). Nine of the top 12 individual three-round scores have been tallied since 2022, with Chung boasting two, including the program-record 218 (+2) in 2023. Teal Matsueda is tied for the sixth-best score, firing a 223 (+7) to finish eighth in 2025.
