Boise State Director of Athletics announced Andrew Rich as the fifth head coach in Bronco softball history, Wednesday.
Â
Rich comes to Boise State after a five-year stint as head coach at Idaho State. With the Bengals, he won three Big Sky regular season titles. In 2026, Idaho State captured the conference tournament and made its first NCAA Championship appearance.
Â
He was named to the 2023 and 2025 Big Sky Coach of the Year and shared the honor in 2026. He coached 42 all-conference selections, including seven yearly award winners.
Â
"Andrew's passion for Boise State, our student-athletes and our softball program is second to none," Dickey said. "From our first interaction, my head, heart and gut were aligned that he is the right fit to lead our program into What's Next as we transition into the Pac-12. He truly symbolizes what it means when we say Once A Bronco, Always A Bronco."
Â
Rich is no stranger to Boise State, having served two years as an assistant coach (2019-20) and one season as the associate head coach (2021). He was the Broncos' recruiting coordinator during his previous tenure in the Treasure Valley.
Â
In 2019, the Broncos won 36 games and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship. Boise State defeated Stanford twice and finished regional runner-up to Florida, the No. 5 national seed. He oversaw back-to-back top 30 recruiting classes and coached defense when the Broncos set a then school record for fielding percentage (.976) in 2021.
Â
Rich began his career as an undergraduate assistant coach/assistant director of operations at Fresno State in 2016 and was part of the NFCA Pacific Region Coaching Staff of the Year as the Bulldogs won the Mountain West.
Â
He spent two seasons (2017-18) at Sonoma State and helped the Seawolves earn a bid to the NCAA Division II West I Regional during his first season.
Â
Rich and his wife Staci have one son, Easton.
