BOISE, Idaho – Boise State volleyball lost to Idaho State, 3-2, in the final day of the Boise State Classic.
The Broncos (3-3) claimed first in the tournament after sweeping North Dakota State (4-1) and UNLV (0-5), despite the loss against Idaho State (4-2). Sydney Dreves earned Boise State Classic MVP, while Melia Barlow and Azlynn Tittmann were named to the all-tournament team.
In set one, the two teams traded points early with three lead changes and five tied scores. Outside hitters Amelia Hansen and Tittmann led the team with six and four kills, respectively. Barlow led the back-row defense with six digs. The Broncos added four-consecutive kills from Hansen and Tittmann with assists from Tehya Maeva to build their lead. Tittmann took the final kill to secure set one 25-18.
The match remained back-and-forth in set two, until the Bengals took control of the lead, 16-10. Boise State slowly cut into the Bengals' lead with kills from Hansen, Kendall Hastings and Tittmann. The Broncos continued to fight back, but couldn't dictate the pace in set two (25-22).
The Bengals quickly pulled ahead in set three with a nine-point lead. Attempting to take charge, Dreves tallied four kills in five points. Boise State didn't pull in front of the Bengals for the remainder of set three (25-21).
Dreves sustained a dominant presence at the net in set four with four kills. The two teams went point-for-point with nine tied scores and four lead changes. Barlow served up an ace to make it 24-23 and an attack error on the Bengals sent the match to five sets.
Set five was a hard-fought battle between the two teams. Idaho State slowly pulled ahead at 6-5 and the Broncos couldn't take advantage, leading to a 15-12 loss.

Sydney Dreves led the team in kills with a career high 19, which also marks her fifth-consecutive match with a team high in kills. Additionally, she notched a team-high three service aces.

"Idaho State was just a little better tonight," head coach Shawn Garus said. "I think they played with great passion, great energy. We seemed to play with a little more stress. The last couple of days we've played from ahead a lot and today we needed to battle back. Today we did, but we dug holes for ourselves and Idaho State was a little too good for us today."
