    Assistant Defensive Line
  • Email:
Frank Maile returned to Boise State in February 2025 as a defensive analyst.

Maile (MY-lay) has worked in the Mountain West, Pac-12 and SEC as a defensive line and EDGE coach in his career.

Prior to rejoining the Broncos, Maile worked for two seasons at Washington State (2023-24). In his first season with the Cougars, he mentored Brennan Jackson, who earned All-Pac 12 Second Team honors and worked his way into being drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Maile also tutored Ron Stone, Jr., an eventual NFL undrafted free agent with the Las Vegas Raiders after picking up 11 TFLs and 5.0 sacks in 2023 en route to All-Pac-12 honors.

In his first stint at Boise State (2021-22), Maile was the assistant head coach and defensive line coach. He was a part of a defensive unit that was ninth in the country in total defense in 2022 as well as sixth in pass defense and 16th in scoring defense. Maile worked with two-time All-Mountain West performer Scott Matlock, who was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Prior to Boise State, Maile spent five years at his alma mater, Utah State. In 2020, he served as the Aggies’ co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach. He was also the interim head coach for Utah State’s final three games of that season. It was his second stint as the interim head coach for the Aggies, a role he had in the 2018 New Mexico Bowl victory over North Texas.

Maile helped build dominant defenses with Utah State, including the nation’s top-ranked unit in turnovers forced (32) and interceptions (22) in 2018. His defenses consistently ranked among the top-25 nationally in scoring, rushing, and total defense, while producing multiple NFL signees and seven All-Mountain West performers.  In 2016, he helped Ricky Ali’ifua sign a free agent contract with the Kansas City Chiefs and go on to play for the Seattle Seahawks after earning all-conference honorable mention. He briefly coached tight ends in 2019, and helped Caleb Repp pick up all-conference honorable mention honors and sign as an undrafted free agent with the Atlanta Falcons.

Maile previously coached at Vanderbilt (2014-15), where his unit ranked top 35 nationally in nine defensive categories. He began his coaching career at Utah State in 2009 and was part of the Aggies' 2012 WAC Championship team. As a player, he was a team captain and four-year letterwinner for the Aggies (2004-07).

A Utah State graduate, Maile holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. He and his wife, Heather, have four children: Maximus, Samson, Titan, and Cecilia.
