Men's Tennis Back in Action

BOISE, Idaho - The Boise State men's tennis team will kick-off the 2012 season this weekend with a pair of home duals against Saint Mary's (Calif.) and Eastern Washington, Sunday, Jan. 22. The Broncos will face the Gaels at 9 a.m. at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club before moving over to the Boas Indoor Tennis Center to face the Eagles at 1:30 p.m.
National Rankings...
Boise State men's tennis is ranked 49th in the first Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings of 2012. Damian Hume and James Meredith received national rankings individually.
Hume checks in at No. 25 on the heels of a successful fall season that included the Mountain Region singles title and a run to the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
Meredith is ranked 31st, nationally. His fall season included two wins at the ITA All-American Championships.
Looking at Saint Mary's...
No. 62 Saint Mary's enters the season after going 14-11 last season, 5-4 in West Coast Conference play and finishing third in the WCC Tournament. The Gaels are led by junior Maxime Olivan who earned All-WCC Honorable Mention honors last season as the No. 1 player. Olivan teamed up with senior Gavin Leon last season to earn a spot on the All-WCC First Team as the Gaels top doubles squad.
Looking at Eastern Washington...
Eastern's 2012 men's tennis squad features a balanced roster of three seniors, two juniors, four sophomores and one freshman. Head coach Darren Haworth returns seven letterwinners from his 2010-11 roster which finished 10-14 last season. The veterans of the squad include seniors Stefan Simikic, Julian Sanchez and Chad Henninger, all of whom finished with a .500 or better record in Big Sky play last season. Sanchez and Henninger were especially strong as doubles partners, finishing the 2011 campaign with a 10-6 overall mark.
