ATHENS, Ga. - No. 69 Damian Hume battled in an eventual three-set defeat (5-7, 6-1, 6-2) against Kentucky's No. 15 Alex Musialek in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Wednesday.

Hume was off to a strong start in the first set. He and Musialek traded service breaks before the score reached 5-4 in favor of Musialek, but with Hume on serve. The Bronco senior rattled off three-consecutive games by holding serve, breaking and holding serve again to take the first set 7-5.

From there, Musialek took control, rebounding with a 6-1 victory in the second set to even the match at 1-1 and force a third set.

In the third, it looked as if Hume was back in business, taking the first game in impressive fashion. Musialek halted any chance of a change of momentum though, winning the next five games before Hume would earn his second. Musialek went on to close out the set and match with a 6-2 win.

Hume, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, closes the book on his senior season with a 31-7 record. Hume will leave Boise State with a 46-20 record during his two-year career.

"Damian played really well in the first set but in the second and third sets Musialek entered a different level and we couldn't find a ladder to get back into the match," said head coach Greg Patton. "It was a great journey. It was like a great movie with a really sad ending a little bit too soon. I wish there was a sequel."
