10/11/2018 9:14:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Boise State volleyball came up short at Colorado State Thursday night falling in three sets 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 in Fort Collins, Colo. Boise State started the match slow dropping the first set by 11 points, then regrouped to battle the Rams in the final two periods before falling to the defending champions. The loss drops the Broncos to 11-7 overall and 3-4 in MW play, while CSU improves to 13-6 and 5-2 in league.
"I was disappoint with our energy to start the first set, which caused us a lot trouble early," said Boise State head coach Shawn Garus. "I thought we played better in the second and third sets but still struggled with consistency on the court. We had some chances in the last two sets, but we couldn't maintain any momentum in the match as CSU had an answer for everything we tried. We need to learn from this loss and put it behind us, because we have another tough match on Saturday in Laramie against a good Wyoming team."

The Blue and Orange was led by senior Sabryn Roberts who hit 32.1 percent for a team-high 13 kills to go with one assist, nine digs and one block. Roberts moved into sixth-place all-time at Boise State for career kills with 1,155. Freshman Jessica Donahue followed by hitting a team-best 33.3 percent for eight kills to go with two blocks.

The Broncos struggled hitting the ball early recording a -3.6 percent in the opening set, before rebounding to hit 26.5 and 33.3 percent in the second and third sets, respectively. Boise State finished the night hitting 20.4 percent overall, but Colorado State countered by hitting 32.4 percent.

Every time the Broncos made a move and pulled into the lead, the Rams answered with a mini run to take control. Boise State finished the night with 35 kills on 31 assists with three service aces, 29 digs and five blocks. CSU tallied 47 kills on 45 assists with seven aces, 42 digs and six blocks.

Janell Walley added five kills, seven digs and two blocks for Boise State, while Kiley Lewis chipped in four kills and two blocks. Morgan Hughes finished with three kills, for digs and team-high three blocks. Cassedi Simon dished out 25 assists on the night.

Next up for Boise State is a trip to Laramie, Wyo., for a 1 p.m. (MT) Saturday afternoon encounter with the Wyoming Cowgirls.
