Boise State Rolls in Season Opener at Idaho

Broncos open the Christine Mabile era in impressive fashion.
MOSCOW, Idaho - Boise State swimming and diving began the Christine Mabile era by rolling past instate-rival Idaho in their season opener at Moscow on Saturday as the Broncos dominated the Vandals in a 171-118 victory. The Blue and Orange officially won 12 of the 16 events against Idaho, they swam the other four events as exhibitions once the win was in hand, but recorded the top times in those four races.Â
Abbey Sorensen led the Broncos with four victories in the meet, two individual and two relay titles. Sorensen won the 50 free with a time of 23.26 and the 200 back in 2:01.46. The senior was also a part of the two relay victories in the 200 medley and 400 free.
Laura Williams won three events clocking top times in the 100 (1:05.09) and 200 (2:20.97) breaststroke races. Her third win came in the 200 medley as her team swam a 1:44.74 for the victory to out pace the Boise State B team.
Freshman diver Marti Erlam was dominating in her debut meet recording NCAA Zone qualifying scores on both springboards as  she won the 3-meter by 40 points with 324.67 and the 1-meter by 13 points with 302.10.  Her 3-meter score ranks third all-time in program history, while her 1-meter score ranks sixth.Â
Hayley Hill cruised to victories in the two long distance freestyle races taking the 1,000 free with a 10:18.18 and the 500 free with a 5:02.55.Â
Robin Pinger tallied three top times with a 2:06.03 in the 200 individual medley and was part of both relay team victories. In addition, she placed second in the 100 breaststroke clocking a 1:05.40.Â
Freshman Lauren Vitort also turned in a solid debut performance winning the 200 free in 1:51.53 and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.Â
Senior Ally Kleinsorgen won the 100 backstroke swimming a 55.23 and placed second in the 100 free with a 52.01. Kleinsorgen was also on the winning 400 free relay.Â
Cody Evans claimed the top time in the 100 free turning in a 51.35. She was also on the 400 free relay winning team.Â
Emmie Jennings recorded the best time of the day in the 100 butterfly clocking a 57.21. Brittany Wen placed second in the 100 fly with a 57.49 and swam the top time in the 200 fly at 2:03.85.Â
The victory over the Vandals extends Boise State's season-opening win streak to 10 straight, its win streak for duals to 11 and its streak versus the Vandals to 14 straight.
The Broncos will close out its season opening road trip to the Palouse Sunday morning at 11 a.m. (Mountain) against Washington State in Pullman.Â
