Vitort and Hogg set pool records in the meet to lead the Broncos.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Molly Hogg and Lauren Vitort set pool records Friday afternoon at the UC San Diego Quad Meet to lead Boise State to a 2-1 mark. Boise State's win streak in duals increased to 14-0 with victories over UC San Diego (220-79) and UC Davis (218-81) before it came to an end in a tight loss to Mountain West rival San Diego State (154-145). The 2-1 result at the quad meet improves the Broncos to 4-1 overall on the year.

"I'm really happy with the result today," said Boise State head coach Christine Mabile. "I thought we swam fast against some good teams and we were faster than last week.  Any time you can increase your speed from the previous week and as the season progresses is a good thing. I thought we were solid today and had some great performances, Lauren (Vitort) and Molly (Hogg) both set pool records. Lauren is such a competitor for us, she's fierce in the pool and a good teammate out if it. All a round it was a good result for us."

Boise State won six events in the overall meet and set three pool records in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle relay. In addition, 15 swimmers combined to record 24 NCAA B standard times, while one diver earned two NCAA Zone qualifying scores.

Boise State's top team in both relays set NCAA B cut times with the 200 medley (Ally Kleinsorgen, Laura Williams, Robin Pinger, Abbey Sorensen) placing second overall with a 1:43.31 and the 200 free relay (Sorensen, Pinger, Kleinsorgen, Emmie Jennings) winning the race clocking a 1:33.61 which was also a pool record.

Freshman Lauren Vitort had another impressive showing for Boise State by winning the 200 free with a Canyon View Aquatic Center record and season-personal-best time of 1:49.52. She also placed second in the 500 free (4:56.21) and fourth in the 100 free (51.82). All three of her times made the NCAA B cut requirement.

Molly Hogg, a sophomore, set the pool record in winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.21. In addition, Hogg took fourth overall in the 100 back (56.05), both times are season bests and NCAA B standards.

Hayley Hill claimed her second title of the year in the 1,000 freestyle with a 10:13.11, nearly five seconds faster than second place. The sophomore then took fourth in the 500 free (4:59.87). Both results were season best and NCAA B cut times.

Ally Kleinsorgen recorded two NCAA B cuts the first winning in 100 back with a time of 55.60. The senior then took third in the 100 free with a season-best time of 51.65.

Marti Erlam turned in a solid performance as well winning the 3-meter springboard with a 315.35, the 11th-best score in program history. The freshman took third in the 1-meter springboard with a 265.95, both scores a NCAA Zone qualifying marks.

Other top performances include: Sorensen placing second in the 200 back (2:01.17) and 50 free (23.50); Cody Evans taking second in the 100 free (51.43) and third in the 200 free (1:50.52); Katie McCoy was third in the 100 back (56.03) and fourth in the 200 back (2:02.82); Mandy Barns finished fourth in the 200 fly (2:04.35) and fifth in the 500 free (5:02.92); Brittany Wen placed second in the 200 fly (2:04.07); Robin Pinger was second in the 100 fly (55.48); all of those times and some others made the NCAA B cut.

Boise State was dominating in the 100 and 200 backstroke winning both and taking four of the top five times, as well as the 100 freestyle with three of the top four results.

The Broncos will take a couple weeks off now to prepare for the prestigious Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M Nov. 14-16 in College Station, Texas.
