WHAT IS HAPPENING

  • The Boise State swimming and diving team will be splitting up this weekend for two different major competitions with the swimmers heading to the Art Adamson Invitational at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas, while the divers will head to the Mizzou Invite at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo.
  • Action begins for the swim team on Wednesday morning and runs through Friday evening. The action begins for the divers on Thursday morning and runs through Saturday evening.
  • Both competitions will provide live scoring.

PREVIEW: ART ADAMSON INVITATIONAL

  • The Boise State swimmers will be in College Station, Texas, for their third meet of the season as they compete in the Art Adamson Invitational for the fifth-consecutive year. 
  • This year's edition of the Art Adamson features four teams in Texas A&M, Boise State, Hawai'i and LSU. All three participated in last year's meet as well with Texas A&M (1,273.5) taking first, Hawai'i (262) fifth, LSU (224) seventh and the Broncos (209) eighth out of 10 teams. 
  • Boise State is 3-8 all-time versus Hawai'i (1-2 in duals, 2-6 at invites), while going 0-4 versus both Texas A&M and LSU — all at the Art Adamson Invite. 
  • Texas A&M and LSU are members of the Southeastern Conference, while Hawai'i is now in the Big West Conference ... Boise State and Hawai'i are former conference rivals in the Western Athletic Conference (2007-2011) where the Broncos went 2-3 versus the Rainbow Wahine in conference championship meets.

  • There is no diving competition being held at this year's Art Adamson.

PREVIEW: MIZZOU INVITE

  • The Boise State divers will be traveling to Columbia, Mo., for the Mizzou Invite which is both a swimming and diving meet, but only the Broncos divers will be there. 
  • This year's Mizzou Invite features 12 schools competing in the women's diving competition which will include the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards, as well as platform diving.
  • Teams participating against the Broncos include: Arkansas (SEC), BYU (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), Cal Baptist (WAC), Florida International (CUSA), Missouri (SEC), San Diego State (MW), Utah (Pac-12) and Wyoming (MW), as well as two NCAA DII programs Drury and McKendree who are members of the Great Lakes Valley Conference.  
  • The 3-meter springboard start things off on Thursday, Friday will see the 1-meter competition, followed by the platform on Saturday. All three days will start with the prelims in the morning, followed by the B finals in the afternoon and A finals in the evening.
  • This will be Boise State's first meet of the season competing on the platform.

LAST TIME OUT

  • SAN DIEGO, Calif. (Oct. 19) -  Molly Hogg and Lauren Vitort set pool records at the UC San Diego Quad Meet to lead Boise State to a 2-1 mark. 
  • Boise State's win streak in duals increased to 14-0 with victories over UC San Diego (220-79) and UC Davis (218-81) before it came to an end in a tight loss to Mountain West rival San Diego State (154-145). 
  • Boise State won six events in the overall meet and set three pool records in the 200 freestyle, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle relay. In addition, 15 swimmers combined to record 24 NCAA B standard times, while one diver earned two NCAA Zone qualifying scores. 
  • Boise State's top team in both relays set NCAA B cut times with the 200 medley (Ally Kleinsorgen, Laura Williams, Robin Pinger, Abbey Sorensen) placing second overall with a 1:43.31 and the 200 free relay (Sorensen, Pinger, Kleinsorgen, Emmie Jennings) winning the race clocking a 1:33.61, which was also a pool record. 
  • Boise State was dominating in the 100 and 200 backstroke winning both and taking four of the top five times, as well as the 100 freestyle with three of the top four results.
  • Freshman Lauren Vitort had an impressive showing for Boise State by winning the 200 free with a Canyon View Aquatic Center record and season-personal-best time of 1:49.52. She also placed second in the 500 free (4:56.21) and fourth in the 100 free (51.82). All three of her times made the NCAA B cut requirement.  
  • Molly Hogg, a sophomore, set the pool record in winning the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.21. In addition, Hogg took fourth overall in the 100 back (56.05), both times are season bests and NCAA B standards.
  • Other event winners on the day included: Hayley Hill in the 1,000 free (10:13.11), Ally Kleinsorgen in the 100 back (55.60) and Marti Erlam on the 3-meter springboard (315.35).  

ERLAM HONORED

  • Boise State freshman diver Marti Erlam has been named the Mountain West Diver of the Week twice this fall (Oct. 16 & 23) in back-to-back weeks. 
  • In addition, she was named the Boise State Athlete of the Week on Oct. 15 when she won both springboard events against Idaho (Oct.13) with scores that are ranked in the top-10 in program history, set Boise State freshman records and were NCAA Zone qualifying marks. 
  • The Calgary, Alberta, native now ranks third on the Boise State record book in the 3-meter (324.67) event and sixth in the 1-meter (302.10) – while establishing new freshman bests in program history. 

THE MABILE ERA BEGINS

  • Christine Mabile returned to her alma mater over the summer and became the third head coach in the program's history, which is entering its 13th season in 2018-19.
  • Mabile is a 2010 alum of Boise State.
  • She did not swim for the Broncos as an undergraduate, instead she spent the four years as a volunteer assistant coach working with the team from the deck.  
  • Mabile returned to Boise State after two years as an assistant at Missouri, preceded by five years as head coach at the College of Idaho.
  • Joining Mabile on her first coaching staff are Jordan Lieberman who was an assistant at Cornell, as well as Brandon Blaisdell who returns for his fourth season as the Bronco diving coach. 

CHAMPIONSHIP TRADITION

  • Boise State's swimming and diving program has built a championship tradition in its 12-year existence. 
  • Since its founding for the 2006-07 school year the Broncos have won six conference championships, including back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. 
  • The first two titles came in 2010 and 2011 as members of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
  • Boise State's longest streak of consecutive conference championships has been three, capped off by the 2012 Mountain West title in the Broncos first year of membership.
  • Since joining the MW for the 2011-12 campaign, Boise State has won four of seven titles bringing home the hardware in 2012, 2014, 2017 and 2018.  
  • In all, the Broncos have won a conference championship six times in the last nine years. 
  • WIN STREAKS
  • Boise State has not lost a home dual in nine years dating back to Feb. 7, 2009 when they lost at the hands of Oregon State in the program's third season.
  • The Broncos victory over Wyoming in the home finale last year on Jan. 20, 2018 extended their home win streak in team duals to 23 straight, 2-0 in the 2017-18 season.
  • Following the wins at Idaho (Oct. 13) and Washington State (Oct. 14) Boise State has an active overall win streak of 12-consecutive victories in dual meets dating back to Jan. 6, 2017 when the Broncos fell at UCLA.

SEVEN BRONCOS RANKED IN TOP-10 AT BOISE STATE

  • Entering the 2018-19 campaign six veterans of the team were ranked in the top-10 at Boise State in various races, since then one freshman has joined their ranks.
  • Ally Kleinsorgen currently has times among the top-10 in three races ... she has three times ranked in the 50 backstroke with the best coming in at third with a of 24.52 as the lead-off leg of the 200 medley relay in last year's MW championship victory ...  she also has the fourth-best time in the 100 back with a 52.90 accomplished in the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay at the Art Adamson Invite in 2017, she also has the 10th-fastest time for 100 back ... the final race she is ranked in is the 200 back where she owns the sixth (1:56.18) and eighth (1:56.59) place times.
  • Abbey Sorensen is ranked in the top-10 for two races ... she has four of the top-10 times for the 200 backstroke with the top time ranked second at 1:54.53 accomplished in the 2018 MW preliminary races, her second-fastest time of 1:54.60 won her the 2018 MW Championship ... she also owns the 10th-ranked time for the 50 free with a career-best time of 22.37 swam as a member of the MW Championship 200 freestyle relay team in 2018.
  • Hayley Hill is ranked in two races as well ... she owns the 10th-ranked time for the 500 free at 4:45.30 swam at last year's CSCAA National Invitational ... she also has the fourth-ranked time in the 1,650 free of 16:29.26 which won the championship and set the meet record at the 2018 CSCAA National Invitational at Annapolis, Md.
  • Lucia Davis is also ranked in the 1,650 free with a time of 16:36.57 accomplished at the 2018 MW Championships and is good for sixth place in Bronco history. 
  • Alyssa Schultz has the ninth-ranked time for the 1,650 free of 16:38.71 recorded at last year's MW Championships. 
  • Cassidy Bose, a senior diver, owns the fifth and seventh ranked scores on the platform dive tallying a 254.70 (fifth) at the 2016 MW Championships and a 248.75 (seventh) at the 2017 Art Adamson Invitational.
  • Marti Erlam is the freshman who joined the club in her first meet for the Broncos recording two top-10 scores in diving with the third-best 3-meter score of 324.67 and sixth-best on the 1-meter with a 302.10.
