BOISE, Idaho -Â Boise State women's basketball tunes up for the 2018-19 season Friday night as it hosts Concordia (Ore.) in exhibition action at Taco Bell Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
Friday's exhibition precedes Boise State's 2018-19 opening weekend, which will feature the Broncos hosting defending Big West champion and 2018 NCAA Tournament participant CSUN (Cal State Northridge) Thursday, Nov. 8, followed by Southern Oregon on Saturday, Nov. 10. The non-conference home slate also includes a key matchup Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. against 2018 Final Four participant Louisville, in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament First Round, in which the Cardinals defeated the Broncos, 74-42, on March 16 in Louisville.
Bronco fans can get their ticket to Friday night's exhibition as well as all 16 regular-season home dates with the 2018-19 Bronco Sports Pass, which gets its bearer admission to every Boise State home contest (excluding football and men's basketball). The Bronco Sports pass is available for just $75. Single-game Boise State women's basketball tickets go for $6 for adults and $4 for juniors and seniors. VIP tickets are also available for $15.
Boise State is coming off of a 2017-18 campaign in which it went 23-10 (14-4 MW), captured the Mountain West double (regular season and tournament titles), and made the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four years, returns four starters and nine letterwinners in 2018-19. Leading this group are 2018 All-Mountain West guards junior Riley Lupfer and senior Marta Hermida, the only returning Broncos to start all 33 games a season ago. Lupfer is coming off of a breakout 2017-18 campaign in which she led the team with 16.2 points per game and set the Boise State and Mountain West single-season records with 122 3-pointers made. She went on to be voted the Most Outstanding Player of the Mountain West Tournament after averaging 16.7 points and shooting 44.4 percent (12-for-27) from 3-point range over Boise State's 3-0 run.
Hermida began her junior year off of a gold-medal performance with Spain's U20 National Team at the 2017 FIBA U20 European Women's Championship, and went on to average 10.8 points (second on the team) and a team-leading 4.70 assists per game for Boise State. The Madrid native posted the second triple-double in Boise State women's basketballhistory with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists against Corban on Nov. 26, 2017, and was a key contributor to the Broncos' successful Mountain West Tournament run, averaging 12.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.33 assists while shooting 43.6 percent from the floor over the three wins.
Concordia went 14-14 last season, and 8-12 in GNAC play. Head coach Sean Kelly enters his fifth season at the Cavaliers' helm, and the team is led this season by top returners senior forward Bailey Cartwright (13.8 ppg, 10.8 rpg in 2017-18) and junior guard Kizzah Maltezo (11.9 ppg, 63 3-pointers last year).
