Game Notes

UP NOW: Boise State (6-2-0) will kick off Mountain West play with a split weekend, as it will first host Nevada (3-3-2) Friday at the Boas Soccer Complex, and then travel down to Las Vegas to face UNLV (6-2-1) Sunday.

PROMOTIONS: The first 200 fans to Friday's game will receive a free pair of Bronco sunglasses. Friday's temperature calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s, so make sure to come early and pick up some shades!

LAST TIME OUT: Boise State solidified its best nonconference season in program history (according to winning percentage) with a convincing 3-0 victory over Idaho State last Sunday afternoon at the Boas Soccer Complex.

Raimee Sherle (6th), Ashleigh Harrison (42nd) and McKenna Kynett (78th) all tallied goals as the Broncos secured their fourth shutout of the season. Emily Curry, Allegra Weeks and Kristina Serres, respectively, picked up the assists on the three goals in chronological order.

ABOUT NEVADA: After a 1-17 season in 2017, the Wolf Pack are much improved in 2018 with wins over Idaho, UC Davis and Southern Utah. Six different Nevada players have scored goals, but Payton Lieb leads the way with three goals (and one assist).

ABOUT UNLV: The Rebels enter the weekend having won four of their last five games. UNLV leads the conference with 21 goals overs the course of the nonconference season, as Caitlyn Kreutz (5 goals) and Kaila Brinkman (4 goals) are tops on the team with 10 points each.

NONCON SUCCESS: Not only was the 6-2-0 record in nonconference play the best nonconference season in program history (according to winning percentage), but Boise State starts league play in first place among Mountain West teams according to their nonconference records. Wyoming (5-1-2) and UNLV (6-2-1) were second and third, respectively.

MULTIPLE THREATS: The Blue and Orange were once again at their best with the various offensive threats last Sunday against Idaho State, as the team moved to 39-1-1 under sixth year head coach Jim Thomas when multiple players score.

ON THE BRINK OF HISTORY: With 34 career goals, Sherle is just one away from tying the program record held by Shannon Saxton (35; 2007-10). Her goal against the Bengals also was her fifth game-winning goal of the season, as she continues to lead the NCAA in the statistic.

Overall, the junior ranks in the top 10 of the NCAA in six offensive statistics: game-winning goals (No. 1 – 5 gwg), goals per game (No. 2 – 1.13 gpg), points per game (No. 8 – 2.25 ppg), shots per game (No. 10 – 5.13 spg), total goals (No. 3 – 9 goals) and total points (No. 10 – 18 points).

SERRES GETTING IT DONE: The junior forward has found her niche in the Bronco starting lineup as the team's primary distributor, leading the team with four assists in 2018. Her four assists is tops in the conference and ranks No. 50 in the NCAA.

THE HISTORY: Boise State is 3-2-0 in Mountain West openers under Thomas, having won its last three. The Blue and Orange hold a 16-2-1 all-time series advantage against the Wolf Pack, but trail UNLV (3-5-2) in its all-time series.

BIG CROWD AT BOAS: The 663 fans at Boas last Sunday marked the highest attendance for a home game in almost three years (697 against Air Force, Oct. 15, 2015). In addition, the team's six-game winning streak at Boas (dating back to last season) is the second-longest home winning streak in program history.
