Senior clears 16-6.75 to tie for Mountain West lead

NAMPA, Idaho -- Only two Boise State track and field athletes competed in the Friday night portion of the Ed Jacoby Invitational and Multis, but both provided plenty of highlights.

In the men's pole vault, Justin Stattner set a season best on his second attempt and carried that momentum to a dominant victory. After passing the first six heights, Stattner opened the met with a successful attempt at 4.70m (15-5).

Stattner cleared his next attempt of 4.85 (15-11), raising the bar to 5.00 (16-4.75) – four inches above his career best and narrowing the field to two athletes. After an unsuccessful attempt, Stattner cleared the bar to move into fifth on the Boise State record book in the event.

As the only athlete remaining in the field, Stattner raised the bar to 5.05m (16-6.75). He cleared the mark on his first attempt to move into fourth on the school record book, ahead of former Bronco and current volunteer coach, Chris Manuele.

Stattner's mark now ranks him tied for first in the conference, and tied for 35th in the nation entering the weekend.

Boise State's strong night in the field events was continued by Kendra Noneman in the weight throw. Noneman finished the night with a personal best of 17.01m (55-9.75) to finish fourth. The Eagle, Idaho native threw 16-meter range on her first five attempts, before finally eclipsing the 17-meter battier on her final throw.

The Broncos will continue the Ed Jacoby Invitational on Saturday. Boise State's first competitor will be Drew Lindsley in the men's weight throw at 9 a.m., with Bryce Kirby, David Pierce and Jose Rubio racing in the prelims of the 60m at 11:15 a.m.
