BOISE, Idaho - Boise State women's soccer maintained its spot on top of the Mountain West Conference with a 2-1 victory over San Diego State, Friday. Both teams came into the game with a share of the conference lead, along with New Mexico. Boise State now sits 12-2 on the year and 4-1 in the MW.

"Anytime you have a team that is on a winning streak like they are and our team is coming back from a loss it adds to the energy and the nervousness," said head coach Jim Thomas.

Freshman Gabby Gillespie recorded her first-collegiate goal in the 14th minute thanks to a cross by senior Raimee Sherle. Sherle placed the ball right at the feet of Gillespie directly in front of the net, a quick flick of the ball toward the left post secured the lead for the Broncos. For Sherle it was her seventh assist of the season.

Boise State maintained the 1-0 lead, until a throw-in by Ashleigh Harrison in the 42nd minute near the corner was cleared out to the top of the Aztec 18-yard box, a swift kick by junior Jennifer Turnek hammered the ball past the San Diego State keeper into the net. Turnek now has two goals on the year, both are game winners.

Boise State keeper Sydney Smith recorded her 12th win on the year, putting her just one win off the school single-season record. She allowed one goal in the match coming off a penalty kick in the 75th minute.

"I am really proud of our girls to overcome some of what happened to secure the victory," said Thomas.

The Broncos remain tied on top of the MW with New Mexico who won its match at Utah State, Friday afternoon. Boise State faces off with New Mexico for sole possession of the top spot in the conference, Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.
