Boise State won 11 of the 16 events on the day to dominate the Cowgirls 186-108.
BOISE, Idaho -  Boise State swimming and diving opened the season with a commanding victory over the Wyoming Cowgirls 186-108 Friday afternoon at the West Family YMCA and Boise City Aquatics Center. Four Broncos, Marti Erlam, Lauren Vitort, Molly Hogg and Robin Pinger, won two individual events each to lead the Broncos to victory.Â
The win extends the Broncos' home win streak in duals to 25 straight, dating back to Oct. 17, 2009. They will take their 1-0 mark on the year into Saturday's dual against instate-rival Idaho (0-1) at 10 a.m.Â
"We had a great start to the season," said head coach Christine Mabile. "I thought the team had great energy and I felt like the work they've put in the last seven weeks really showed today. I really enjoyed seeing the entire team gave what they had to every race and made every race count. It's hard to swim back-to-back-to-back in a dual meet so quickly, but they did a really good job of finishing one event then focusing on the next. They stayed focused and energized the whole meet and that's how you win duals."
"The newcomers were great today," Mabile said. "The freshmen are really bringing a lot of that passion and energy to the team, they are a cheer squad, Â they swam so well in their races that they pumped up the rest of the team. I was really happy with the entire team's performance today, everyone contributed."
Erlam won both springboard diving events taking the 3-meter with a 316.8 and the 1-meter with a personal-best 307.2. Tatum Thompkins also had a solid meet recording two career-best scores with a 306.08 on the 3-meter to place second and a 267.15 on the 1-meter to take third. All four dives by the Broncos were NCAA Zone qualifying scores.
Vitort collected victories in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:51.81, then followed with a win in the 500 free with a 5:03.03.Â
Hogg brought home wins in both backstroke races clocking a 56.24 in the 100 back, then a 2:01.45 in the 200 back.Â
Robin Pinger swam to a pair of victories in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:05.04, then clocked a 2:06.93 to win the 200-yard individual medley.Â
Boise State also swept both relay races claiming wins in the 400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle. The Boise State A team featuring Martina Andrasek, Pinger, Beatriz Zoppei and Vitort won the six-team 400 medley relay with a time of 3:49.71. The Broncos' D team of Madesyn Ronquillio, Anahi Schreuders, Brittany Wen and Hayley Hill placed third with a 3:56.33.
The 200 free relay was won by Broncos' A team, Vitort, Emmie Jennings, Madison Frederick and Pinger, in a time of 1:36.13. The Boise State C team made up of Wen, Schreuders, Carly Palmer and Hogg claimed third with a 1:38.92.
