FORT COLLINS, Colo. - In typical Bronco fashion, Boise State women's soccer won its sixth 1-0 victory, Sunday against Colorado State. Senior McKenna Kynett scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute. With the victory the Broncos improved to 15-2 on the year and 7-1 in Mountain West play.
"We played in 40+ mile per hour winds on a beautiful field with two teams that came ready to play and really wanted to win," said head coach Jim Thomas. "They forced us to play a different style that we aren't accustomed to and we handled it exactly how we needed to win."
Senior Raimee Sherle drove down the left side of the box before doubling back and feeding a pass directly to the feet of Kynett just inside the box, without breaking step she rifled the ball past the keeper for the only goal of the game. For Kynett, it was her fifth goal of the season and the eighth assist of the year for Sherle.
"Our midfield was fabulous today Raven [Sweeney] and Emily [Curry] were great," explained Thomas. "Mikayla [Schachtell] and Macie [Nelson] were solid, and of course McKenna with her goal, which ended up being the difference in the match."
Sophomore keeper Sydney Smith recorded four saves en route to a program record 11th shutout and her 15th win of the year. Smith now holds the single-season record for wins and shutouts.
"Sydney had a really tough challenge today, she had a difficult game to manage and she handled it fantastically," said Thomas.
The Broncos return home for their final-two home games of the year at Boas Soccer Complex. Friday, the Blue and Orange host Colorado College at 4 p.m. MT. Sunday the Broncos host the United States Air Force Academy Falcons at 1 p.m. MT.
