Baptista and Poling Lead Broncos on Day One of ITA Mountain Regionals

Joana Baptista and Lilian Poling each advanced in doubles and singles in the first round of the ITA Mountain Region Championships
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Lilian Poling and Joana Baptista each advanced in singles and doubles, while another Bronco doubles team advanced at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships on Wednesday in Las Vegas, Nev.
Lilian Poling and Joana Baptista were first up for the Broncos in doubles, seeing their first action since going 1-1 at the ITA All-American Championships two weeks ago. The duo took on Daniela Cozzi and Zoe Tanti from Southern Utah, taking the victory 8-6 and advancing to the Round of 32.
Junior Vanessa Timm and freshman Mae McCutcheon took care of business in much the same fashion, as they downed Montana's Bianca Bostrom and Maria Goheen 8-4 to move on.
In singles, the sixth-seeded Poling made quick work of Southern Utah's Tanti 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 32 in flight one. Baptista took on Mountain West opponent Ana Fernandez from Wyoming and came out on top in a 6-4, 7-6 contest.
Action will resume tomorrow morning from Las Vegas as the Broncos try to extend their run through the tournament.
