SCHEDULE
BOISE, Idaho - Boise State softball released its 2020 schedule Friday afternoon as excitement builds for the upcoming campaign. Boise State fresh off of two straight NCAA tournament appearances looks to keep the success going in 2020 when the Broncos play a 55-game schedule featuring 33 different teams, 13 of which advanced to postseason play last spring and 16 that finished among the top 100 in the final NCAA RPI. Â
"We are excited for the challenges that our 2020 schedule will present with nine teams making last year's NCAA tournament," said head coach Maggie Huffaker. "We will be playing predominantly on the west coast where we'll get to play in front of many of our players' families and Bronco Nation. Â We'll be stepping into some fantastic softball venues this spring and will face some big-time competition to prepare us for a very competitive Mountain West Conference season. I cannot wait to see our senior class lead us this spring."
Among the nonconference teams on the Broncos' schedule that reached postseason play last fall are: Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Detroit Mercy, Kentucky, North Carolina and Texas who all made the NCAA tournament. In addition, Loyola Marymount (LMU) and South Dakota participated in the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC).
The Mountain West had six of its nine teams ranked in the top 100 of the NCAA RPI with Boise State and Colorado State making the NCAA tournament, while Fresno State and Nevada went to the NISC.
The season begins with five tournaments on the road comprising nearly half of the schedule with 25 of the 55 games. Each tournament will comprise five games for the Broncos.
The Blue and Orange opens at the NorCal Kickoff (Feb. 6-8) co-hosted by UC Davis and Sacramento State with Saint Mary's (Calif.), Santa Clara and UC Santa Barbara rounding out the field.
Week two has Boise State traveling to the Littlewood Classic (Feb. 14-16) in Tempe, Ariz. The Arizona State Sun Devils will play host to the Broncos, Detroit Mercy, Illinois State and Kentucky. Boise State will play ISU twice that weekend.
The third competition in February is the Silicon Valley Classic (Feb. 21-23) hosted by Santa Clara. In addition to Boise State playing its host, the Broncos will also face North Dakota, Cal Baptist, Canisius and Cal Poly.Â
The Judi Garman Classic (Feb. 28-March 1) at Fullerton, Calif., highlights the fourth week of action as Boise State competes against four teams that went to the postseason in 2019 starting with BYU, then Cal State Fullerton, LMU and Texas. The weekend wraps up against Grand Canyon who finished with an NCAA RPI of 78.
The final nonconference tournament will be the Wildcat Invitational (March 6-8) at Tucson, Ariz. The Broncos will meet Southern Illinois Edwardsville (SIUE) twice, Indiana, South Dakota and tournament host Arizona.
The home schedule of 15 games begins in mid-March when Mountain West Conference play starts. With only nine of the 11 conference schools sponsoring the sport, it means Boise State will host four schools and play at four schools in three-game series.Â
On the home slate for Boise State includes the MW opener versus Fresno State (March 13-15), UNLV (March 27-29), San Jose State (April 17-19) and New Mexico (May 1-3), the Lobos will closeout the home schedule.Â
The road slate in conference features series at Nevada (March 20-22), at San Diego State (April 9-11), at Utah State (April 24-26) and the regular season finale at Colorado State (May 7-9). Â
Boise State will mix in three nonconference opponents during league play starting with a game at Idaho State (March 25). Then the Broncos will host a nonconference series against North Carolina (April 3-5) during their league bye week; in addition, they will play a doubleheader at Oregon (April 29).Â
Boise State is offering season tickets for the first time this season. Fans interested need to purchase the Bronco Sports Pass for $100, then for an additional $25 they can get a reserved seat at softball. The sports pass is on sale now and gets the owner into all regular season home events (general admission) for softball, soccer, volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, gymnastics, tennis, swimming & diving and outdoor track & field.Â
