Kryvchun, DeMulling and Bayldon all advanced to the semifinals of their respective draws on Friday.

EUGENE, Ore. - Boise State men's tennis had a strong opening day on Friday going a combined 7-1 at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. The day began with both doubles teams winning to move into Saturday's quarterfinals, while in singles three of the four Broncos, Wyatt DeMulling, Kyryll Kryvchun and Blake Bayldon, advanced to tomorrow's semifinals in their respective flights.

In doubles the team of Kryvchun and DeMulling opened with a dominating 8-1 victory over Portland's Eleftherios Neos and Sema Pankin. Bayldon and Simon Arca Costas won their opener in nearly as dominating fashion as their Bronco teammates defeating a mixed team of Alvaro Gonzalez (LMU) and Arjun Mariyappa (Portland) by an 8-2 score.

Singles play opened with Kryvchun rallying from one set down to beat Brandon Lam of Oregon in three 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. He then downed Portland's  Kostya Nesterenko by rallying once again from a set down after dropping a tiebreaker in the first frame to dominate the final two sets to win 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-0. He will face Oregon's Ty Gentry in Saturday's A flight semifinals.

"Kyryll started super slow in singles, but once he realized he needed more positive energy, the match was ours," said assistant coach Ali Borhani. "Beating a Oregon player like that is great for team confidence."

DeMulling also swept both of his singles matches in the A flight. He opened the tournament with a round of 16 victory over Portland's Sema Pankin by rallying from behind to win the final two sets to claim the win in three, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3. The senior followed that with a quarterfinal win over Oregon's Jasper Kolv-Nilsson 6-4, 1-6, 6-0. DeMulling moved into Saturday's semifinals where he will meet Phillip Hjorth from Pacific (Calif.).

"I was very proud of Wyatt the way he played today," said Borhani. "Beating a guy who you lost to last year in the same tournament isn't easy, especially when you're in a third set. But he did an amazing job of closing it out and following that up by beating Oregon freshman Klov-Nilsson!"

In B flight singles, Bayldon was seeded No. 1 and was given a bye in the round of 16. He then opened play during the quarterfinals where he stormed past Pacific's Nathan Hampton 6-1, 6-0. Bayldon will face Issa Yoshida from Portland in Saturday's semifinal round.
