Boise State men's basketball takes on Portland Monday, in consolation bracket of the 2019 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. Tipoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. HT/2:30 p.m. MT at the Stan Sheriff Center.

ABOUT THE PILOTS: Portland is 8-5 on the season and coming off an 81-56 loss to Houston in the first round of the tournament. The Pilots have made their mark defensively, holding opponents to 28.9 percent three-point shooting. Isaiah White leads three Pilots in double-figure scoring. White averages 14.3 points per game and leads the team with 26 made three-pointers in 13 games.

SERIES HISTORY: Boise State leads the all-time series 9-7, including a 77-54 victory two years ago in Boise. The Broncos are 3-1 against the Pilots under Leon Rice. The regional foes have met once before on a neutral court at the 1983 Far West Classic in Portland.

GETTING TO THE LINE: Boise State is averaging 21.9 free throw attempts per game, while surrendering just 14.5 free throw attempts per game to its opponents. The Broncos, shooting 72.6 percent from the line, are scoring 15.6 points per game at the charity stripe. They have outscored and outshot their opponents at the free throw line in nine of 11 games this season.

ON THE BIG STAGE: The 2019 Diamond Head Classic marks Boise State's sixth appearance in a major early-season tournament in the last seven years. The Broncos participated in the 2018 Cayman Islands Classic, 2017 Puerto Rico Tip-Off at Myrtle Beach, 2016 Charleston Classic, 2015 Wooden Legacy and 2013 Diamond Head Classic. Prior to the 2013 Diamond Head Classic, Boise State had not played in a major early-season tournament since 2000 (Pearl Harbor Classic).
