BOISE, Idaho -Â Abu Kigab scored 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in his home debut, leading Boise State to a 103-72 win over CSUN Saturday, at ExtraMile Arena. The Broncos (9-5) shot 57.1 percent from the floor and made 11-of-23 three-pointers to pick up their eighth win in the last 11 games.
The Matadors (3-11) led 29-28 with 7:28 left in the first half before Boise State closed the period on a 22-5 run, including 13 points by Kigab during the run. He finished the half with 22 points.
"We were all making the right play and some nights that's just how it is," Kigab said. "I just go out there and try to win the game. I'll do whatever it takes. Sometimes I might have to score more, sometimes I need to rebound more, sometimes I need to pass more. Whatever my team needs, that's what I'll do."
For the game, Kigab was 11-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-4 from three-point range, and 8-for-9 from the free throw line. His 33 points and 11 rebounds are both career highs and it was the first 30-point, 10-rebound effort by a Bronco since Chandler Hutchison posted 39 points and 14 rebounds at Washington in the 2018 NIT. Kigab is believed to be the first Bronco to score 30 points in his home debut.
"You're not just adding a guy who's the same as the other guys," said head coach Leon Rice. "He's different. Credit to our guys for the way they've kind of seamlessly got him in there and credit to him and the kind of personality he is with how hard he plays."
Justinian Jessup scored 24 points, shooting 9-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-7 from three-point range. Jessup now has 270 career three-pointers, moving up to No. 2 in Boise State history and No. 5 in Mountain West history. He needs six triples to break Anthony Drmic's all-time Boise State record of 275 three-pointers.
Kigab, Jessup and Derrick Alston combined for 74 points on 38 field goal attempts as Boise State cracked the century mark for the second time in as many home games and the third time in seven games at ExtraMile Arena this season.
"That's when these guys are best, when they do what the game tells you to do," Rice said. "These guys aren't having to hunt their shot because they find each other and they find the right guys. We've got a lot of unselfish players."
The Broncos finished with 19 assists as a team, led by Alex Hobbs' seven. Boise State has 49 assists during its current three-game win streak. It is also outrebounding opponents by a combined plus-40 over the last three games. The Broncos bested the Matadors on the glass Saturday, 43-27.
Boise State resumes Mountain West play Jan. 1, at home against Wyoming. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena.
