Jessup's Career Night Paces Broncos

12/7/2019 9:48:00 PM | Men's Basketball

BOISE, Idaho - Justinian Jessup once again tormented his home-state team and led Boise State to its first Mountain West victory of the season Saturday, in a 75-64 win against Colorado State at ExtraMile Arena. Jessup posted career highs of 27 points and seven three-pointers while playing all 40 minutes of the game.

Jessup scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half and shot 6-of-7 on three-pointers in the period. The Longmont, Colo., native has scored in double figures in five of his eight career games against Colorado State, including scoring at least 20 points in three of the last four meetings. His two highest-scoring games are against the Rams, as his previous career high of 25 points came in last season's meeting in Boise.

Boise State (5-3, 1-1 MW) led for much of the game, but the Rams (6-5, 0-2 MW) closed the first half on an 11-4 run to take a 33-32 lead into intermission. The Broncos were just 2-for-14 from three-point range in the half. The second half was a different story.

Boise State's first seven field goals of the second half came from beyond the arc, including five from Jessup. That onslaught in the first six minutes of the half put the Broncos up by eight, 53-45.

"This team, we can do that," said head coach Leon Rice. "We made up for the 14 percent that we had in the first half by shooting 57 percent in the second half. That's who we are a little bit."

Colorado State cut the margin to five with 9:15 to play, but the Broncos responded. Jessup scored inside and Hobbs picked up four quick points to push the lead to 11. The Rams mounted one more comeback, getting within seven before Jessup's seventh three-pointer gave Boise State a 73-63 lead with 1:25 to play.

Derrick Alston, Jr. recorded his second double-double of the season with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Alston had 12 points and nine rebounds in the second half alone.

The Broncos return to nonconference action for their remaining six games of December, beginning with a road game Wednesday (Dec. 11), at Tulsa. Boise State will return home Dec. 14, against Alabama State.
