Junior gives up only one hit in six innings

AUSTIN, Texas — The patented Bronco brand of softball made an appearance in Sunday's finale of the Texas Classic. Boise State (2-2) avenged a Friday night loss to Northwestern State to take a 3-2 decision at McCoombs Field. Both games between the Broncos and Lady Demons (2-2) were decided by one runs.

Kelsey Broadus was efficient throughout the game, as 42 of her 72 pitches on the day were strikes. The southpaw from Albany, Ore., limited her pitch count on the day, exceeding 20 pitches in only the third inning. She threw 10 or fewer pitches in three of her six innings of work.

Broadus added three strikeouts in the complete game effort.

"It was a gritty win for us today," head coach Maggie Livreri said. "I thought Kelsey did a great job of setting the tone for us early in the game. I'm really proud of the way she made adjustments. A complete game is great experience for her moving to next week."

Boise State got their lone runs on a Bradie Fillmore home run in the bottom of the first inning. Ashyln Adams got on base thanks to an error by the first baseman, and stretched to second base on an obstruction.

The Broncos will continue the season next week at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament, hosted by UCLA and Long Beach State. Boise State will play UC Riverside, UCLA, Loyola Marymount, Long Beach State and Ole Miss.
