Broncos Drop Rubber Match in 1-0 Loss

Boise State (19-4, 1-2 MW) out-hit 7-2 to open conference play with a series loss
LAS VEGAS – The Boise State softball team dropped the rubber match against UNLV, 1-0, to close out their Mountain West opening series. The Broncos were out-hit 7-2 on the day.
Boise State (19-4, 1-2 MW) had their best opportunity to tie the game with runners on first and second, and no outs, in the top of the sixth inning. Rebekah Cervantes laid down a sacrifice bunt to slide Elaina Mayer and Kora Wade over to third and second, respectively. The Broncos were not able to get the RBI they needed however, as the next two batters were retired.
UNLV (21-6, 2-1 MW) scored the deciding run on a RBI single into shallow left center in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pitching for the second-consecutive day, Gianna Mancha allowed only two walks as she pitched six innings for the complete-game effort.
Boise State will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday. The Broncos will play Harvard and Loyola Marymount in a pair of non-conference games, starting at 11 a.m. MT, at Smith Field in Los Angeles, Calif.Â
