Cervantes Named Mountain West Player of the Week

Senior set a school record with eight RBI in the final game against San Diego State, Saturday. Third-time the she has received the honor in her career
COLORADO SPRINGS – Boise State infielder Rebekah Cervantes was named the Mountain West Player of the Week for the third time in her career, the conference announced Tuesday.
Cervantes finished the week 8-for-18 at the plate, batting in 12 runs as the Broncos went 4-1. Six of her eight hits were for extra bases – hitting a double, a triple and four home runs. In the three-game series against San Diego State the senior posted a .6673.667/1.889 slash line to lead Boise State to a pair of wins for the series victory.
In the finale on Saturday, Cervantes drove in a school-record eight runs in only three at-bats. She drove in three runs on a home run in the bottom of the first inning, and came back through the order a second time to bat in a pair of runs on a stand-up triple. That triple gave her sole possession of first on the Boise State career record book with eight triples.
Cervantes hit a second home run in the second inning, a two-run shot, before heading to the bench with a 10-run lead. The Visalia, Calif., native also homered in the first game of the series – batting in a pair of runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate.
Earlier in the week she had two extra-base hits – a double and a home run – in a 14-6 win over Loyola Marymount, and also recorded a run and stolen base in the morning game against Harvard.
Cervantes is the second Boise State player this season to earn conference player of the week honors. Junior Jessica McKay received the honor on Feb. 19, while Gianna Mancha was named the Pitcher of the Week that same day.
Boise State (23-5, 3-3 MW) will look to move above .500 in conference play this weekend against San José State. The Broncos – who are receiving votes in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches' Poll – will hit the road to face a Spartan squad currently riding a 12-game win streak.
